Vatican City is approximately 110 acres, has a population of fewer than 1,000 people and is filled with artistic and spiritual riches too difficult to absorb. This course takes attendees on a virtual tour of some of the most famous and lesser known treasures with a discussion of their forgotten histories and deeply embedded meanings. It focuses on select chapels and papal tombs of St. Peters, the Secret Gardens, and Renaissance frescos by Rome’s greatest artists. Included are the papal tombs of Innocent VIII, Sixtus IV, the Casino (little house) of Pius IV, the Sala Regia and the Sistine Chapel.
