The orchestra tackles the ultimate of all personal transformations, or turning points as it performs: Franz Schubert’s “Unfinished Symphony;” Johannes Brahms’ “Piano Concerto No. 1” with pianist Robert McDonald joining the Chicago Philharmonic for this masterpiece; and Wojciech Kilar’s “Small Overture for Orchestra.” The Polish vocal group, the Lira Singers perform in the foyer before the concert, showcasing some of the Polish Highland music that inspired Kilar’s works.
