Bestselling author David Laskin will make a special appearance to speak about his book, "The Family: A Journey Into The Heart of the 20th Century." The book has been selected by Solel as the title for its annual One Book, One Solel congregation-wide reading program. In "The Family," Laskin traces the roots of his own family, and in the process, tells a story that traces more than 150 years of Jewish and world history. His epic spans the three great upheavals that affected Jews during the 20th century – immigration to the United States, the risk taking of the pioneers who built the foundation for Israel, and the impact of the Holocaust on those who stayed behind. Although the book is one family’s story, it’s a universally appealing account of faith and wartime, innovation and resilience, and the love between parents and children. The event is open to the public. Books will be for sale and the event will conclude with a book signing.
