The ImageNation Cinema Foundation and the Illinois Humanities Council co-sponsor this Chicago premiere at the Chicago Cultural Center's Claudia Cassidy Theater. RSVP at www.imagenation.us. The movie "explores the historical context and present implications of the two most prevalent black male stereotypes: the 'brute' and 'Mandingo'," according to promotional materials. "Through candid interviews with black men spanning age and background, the feature-length film documentary explores the difference between how society perceives black males and how they define themselves." The movie features: Dr. Cornel West; Tom Burrell; Malik Yoba; Lou Meyers; Vondie Curtis Hall; Kevin Powell; Sam Greenlee; Peter Gunz; Sadat X; Brooklyn Borough President Dr. Khalil Muhammad; General Steele; Eric Adams; Dr. Herukhuti; Chris Rob; and more. The showing will be followed by a panel discussion with Mya B., the film's director, Richard Steele of "The Barber Shop", and Sunni Ali, a professor at Northeastern Illinois University. The moderator will be ImageNation founder and executive director Moikgantsi Kgama.
