My fiance and I went last night and had a wonderful time! The lighting was dim and romantic with candle-lit tables. The couch seating would be good if joining a friend, but we came for dinner and wine. The wine list is extensive, but sectioned off by descriptors like "Spicy Reds" and "Winter Whites" with full descriptors of each wine by the glass and by the bottle, for anyone not so well-versed in wine. I ordered the duck confit and it was one of the best entrees I have ever had. Even the green beans were excellent! We both got wine recommendations with our entrees that paired very well and followed it up with wine flights afterward, which they had a lot of options of those as well. We got to keep the menus the whole time, despite the tables being filled. Our waitress wasn't the most personable, but was very professional, non-condescending, and came back at the appropriate times to check on us. We'll definitely be back!
Report This ReviewI threw a surprise birthday party for my girlfriend here recently and it was a wonderful success. Everything exceeded my expectations. The food was excellent. The service was courteous and accommodating. The cake was perfect. They even have a planner to help coordinate the food and drink menu. They did a phenomenal job. Highly recommended.
Report This ReviewOur last stop for a romantic evening out could not have been better. The service was excellent and provided a great deal of well thought guidance on the extensive wine list and the right food to make the whole experience pop! We will definalty be back for repeat performance!
Report This ReviewI must admit, I am not the world's most sophisticated wine connoisseur, but I have drank in a lot of bars and Websters will always be one of my favorites. The atmosphere is incredibly comfortable, the staff is knowledgeable and interesting , the food is always well prepared, they have a great selection of wines and liquors, and, it's reasonable. I haven't found many places that work that well on so many levels, so I'm glad I found them.
Report This ReviewThis has been one of my favorite places for over a decade. The wines are superb, the hors d'ouevres delicious, and the atmosphere has the odd quality of being both charged and serene. The staff has changed a lot over the years. But they've been a consistently welcoming lot, always ready to recommend their latest finds in Webster's ever-evolving stockroom. Chicago would be a lesser place without this little commons for the connoisseur and the curious.
Report This ReviewThe selection is huge, the servers are very helpful, friendly, and incredibly knowlegeable ~ every year the entire staff travels to a different country to learn more about the wines from that particular region! ~ the appetizers are delicious, and the atmosphere is very cozy, comfortable and romantic!...its a perfect place for a date, and, since its not too loud, its also a great place to relax and have conversations with friends...they also have an outdoor patio, and a private party room on the second floor for special events...ive been going to webster's wine bar for years, and i recommend it to everyone!
Report This Reviewfantastic selection of wines and beers from around the world. cozy, relaxed atmosphere. REALLY knowledgeable staff.
Report This ReviewI have been going to Webster's Wine Bar for over 7 years and I have never had a bad experience. The staff is the most knowledgeable in the city and they are always polite. I recommend this bar to anyone...there is no other place like it in Chicago.
Report This ReviewWell, the bar itself has a good atmosphere, but condescending service is the reason i'll never go back and will badmouth this place to all my friends. My date and I were served a glass of wine that had spoiled, and we tried to send it back but weren't allowed! Apparently the bartender judged it was still fine -- our problem!
Now, the standard mark-up on a glass of wine is 4x, so for a glass of spoiled wine that had a cost to the restaurant of $2, they lost AT LEAST one customer for life. Restaurants succeed with repeat business, so it was a poor decision on their part. And judging from all these reviews, they probably won't be in business for long. Such a shame.
Don't make the same mistake we did. Head over to Pequod's Pizza instead.
Report This ReviewThe wine bar itself is cute, but the service is terrible. Our waiter was condescending, rude, and acted as if we were taking up his time. When asked about advice regarding choosing complementary cheeses, he said, "ug. whatever you want. if you can't decide, i'll just pick some out for you." ...Have never felt so inferior before. And when we were paying with our cards he even asked, "Does this TOTAL the final amount?"
Have never been treated so poorly. Will not return due to service.
