Edgy it's not, but this homey wine bar and gift shop on downtown Wheaton's main strip is an unpretentious spot to boost your wine IQ. A satellite store of Lynfred Winery in Roselle, the shop's selections range from off-dry whites to sweet reds, with unique never-heard-of-that fruit wines such as raspberry, plum or cranberry rose. The most requested bottle? Fred's Red (named after winery owner Fred Koehler), a blend of cabernet, merlot and syrah. Newbies should take advantage of the $5 tasting option, which buys sips of 7 wines; the roster changes monthly. The only sustenance here -- besides the packaged cheese, sausage and snacks in gift baskets -- is the bread served with wine tastings, so it's best to stop in here for a pre-dinner warm-up.
