Not a great place to dine and converse
By dapperdan from Lakeview, September 21, 2009

The restaurant has pretty consistently good food, unfortunately the last few times I was there, the music was so loud (at Saturday lunch and Sunday evening dinner) that it was almost impossible to carry on a conversation with our table of friends. At times they turned down the music, but then it went back up. They seemed a bit peeved that we even asked them to turn it down so that we could have table conversation, and we had to ask several times.

If you are looking for a loud lively bar with pretty good food, this is the place....if you are looking for place with some background music and a chance to converse and relax and catch up with friends, you should probably try some of the many other similar restaurants in the neighborhood.

Have been here twice now and each time have had a great experience. This bar must have the nicest doorman in the city! Good food and cold beer!

Continues great tradition of original Rocks

There are a ton of similar neighborhood, quasi-sports bars in Chicago, but Rocks stands out. For bar food, this is high-grade bar food. And as a Scotch drinker, I can tell you they know what they're doing. Always friendly service, too. It can be crowded, but that should tell you something about the quality. Check out the FANTASTIC fried chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans special on Mondays!

YUMMY!!

I tired this place for the first time last week and the food was amazing! I had the chicken wrap and it was bursting with flavor. My boyfriend had steak tacos and couldn't stop talking about how good they were. the place was warm and cozy with a great mix of people. The waitress was very attentive and checked on frequently. Like the Rocks in Lincoln Park which is mostly straight, this location has a huge representation of gay, showing that it is truly reflection of being a neighborhood pub.

Rock Bottom Service

Last week I went to Rocks for the Sunday Brunch. Ordered my meal with coffee. They had no cream pitchers so they gave us a water goblet with milk in in. Messy to pour. When the meal came I received my toast - but it was dry with no butter on the side. I asked for butter and it came a couple of minutes later - toast was cold at that time and butter wouldn't melt.
I decided to give it another chance. I ordered from the take out menu and they told me it would be ready for pick up in twenty minutes. I arrived there 20 minutes later, told the bar tender I was there to pick up my order. He took my money for the bill - not giving me any change which was due to me and told me it would be out in a minute. After waiting for a half hour - still no food and no change. I asked what the problem was and was told again that it will be out in a minute. After several munutes it finally came. I asked him for my change and he went to ask the bartender who took my money where my change was. Evedentially he didn't remember how much I gave him. They told me it would be a minute for them to straighten it out. At this time I was so annoyed that I told him to forget about it and left.
The food was good, but no longer hot when I got home. It was a lousy way to end a week on a Friday night. I won't go back and will definitely let all my friends and neighbors in the area know of the terrible experience.

Food is fantastic! Hands down the best bar food I've ever had in Chicago! Love the white trash nachos, steak tacos, sweet potato fries, turkey wrap, waffle fries...it's all good. We were all passing food around and sharing...it was that good. Especially the meatloaf, last night's special. I believe it's a private family recipe? Even the square and rectangular serving plates are a pleasant departure from the expected. Service was great, atmosphere is chill. I hear that they're going to be adding some outdoor seating soon as well. A great addition to the neighborhood and a welcoming mix of straight and gay. Will be going back again very soon!
