Coq d'Or
4.1
- Neighborhood: Magnificent Mile
- 140 E. Walton St.
- Chicago, IL 60611
- 312-932-4623
Located at street level in the Drake Hotel, the Coq d'Or boasts that it was the second bar in Chicago to serve drinks to guests before the 8:30 p.m. call announcing the repeal of Prohibition on Dec. 6, 1933. Prohibition is just a memory now, but this classy lounge, lined with red leather booths, still has a dimly lit speakeasy look. Martinis are a specialty. The menu includes the same New England clam chowder and broiled whitefish that's served in the Cape Cod Room, the hotel's famous seafood restaurant.

Stopped in last Friday, the fish and chips were out of sight! Never thought of this for a typical bar food that went far beyond expectations.
