Tavern on Rush: User Reviews
I've been to Tavern on Rush several times. The hostesses are very snotty, the waitors do not pay attention to the customers. Recently my husband and I went to Tavern to have lunch, not only we had to stand and wait for the hostess until she was done talking on the phone for quite some time but the table that we got was right on the road under the sun while there were other tables available under the umbrellas. When I asked the hostess to move us to the table next to us, which was under the umbrella I was told that that table was for more than 2 people. Several minutes later she put 2 guys at that table. When I asked why these 2 people can sit there and and we can't the explanation that I received was that it was the manager's direction to place these 2 people there. When we made an order, the service was very slow. When finally the food arrived, the salad I ordered had no dressing at all. In order to get the dressing I had to wait for the waitor to finally notice us for 20-30 minutes. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience. Tavern lost me and my husband as customers.
Suggestion to management - if you would like to improve your service, please train hostesses (they are very pretty girls but that's about it!) and waitors. You are in customer service business!

We were entertaining some guests in the city, and happened upon Tavern on Rush. Great atmosphere! Had dinner on the second floor, which had an inviting ambiance. The food was very good, and the wine list had wonderful variation. The service was well done, and our server friendly. My only reservation about the restaurant was the prices. Some of the entrees were highly priced for this economy. With the competition in the area, it seems like dollar value could be re-evaluated. That being said, if you are looking for a great atmosphere to entertain guests, try the Tavern.

We have only one experience with Tavern on Rush but I'll have to say I am surprised by the service reviews. We stopped in (without a reservation) this past Saturday during the lights festival. After a long and unusually cold walk, and striking out at a few other one-hour waits, the host at Tavern was incredibly kind and offered my wife and I a small, but cozy table upstairs. The food was delicious -- though I agree with another review that it may have arrived just a bit sooner than it did. Our server was attentive and helpful throughout the evening. Just lucky? Maybe, but we will definitely stop in again in the near future.

Woah, talk about a bad dining experience. When we arrived, it took forever for the hostess to even greet us as she was wandering around the sunny outdoor scene. Once we finally got our food though, the mediocre service would be the least of our issues here.
First off, the house salad was drenched in dressing. Once I managed to scrape some of that overloaded dressing off, I also noticed that the bits of iceberg lettuce which comprised the salad were browned around the edges, bringing back unwelcome memories of my junior high cafeteria. On the bright side, the bread they serve is pretty good.
My wife ordered a Margarita pizza, which was lukewarm and had a soggy crust. To my shock, the filet I ordered was also not hot when it came to the table. Is it too much to ask when you’re spending $40 for a steak that it be served in relatively short order after it exits the oven? My guess is that it was sitting under a heat lamp for a good 10 minutes.
In sum, if you like mediocre, overpriced food in a pretentious atmosphere, then it's a great choice!

Nice location for Gold Coast people watching. However, I received terrible service during a recent visit. My meal was improperly prepared and though I tried to resolve the matter discreetly, the waiter became inexplicably upset and raised his voice to practically yell at me. It was an extremely disappointing and upsetting experience and I will NEVER return to this restaurant.

A great place to get a drink, but then eat somewhere-anywhere, else. The staff is a rude and unhappy bunch, particularly the mal nurished hostesses. The place is jammed with tourists who don't seem to mind the bad food. A seat by the window in the bar is fun on a summer evening, otherwise take a pass.

Went last week and had a great dinner. The steaks are the best in the city and the people watching is the best.
Report This ReviewAfter waiting quite awhile for an outdoor table, ordering a mid-level ($50+) bottle of wine, appetizers, and two entree-type salads-it was already 9:00 p.m., we were told a full dinner order was a requirement for the outdoor seating. I then changed my order to the ribs. The manager came over and said, I don't want any trouble, but you'll have to leave. I don't recommend it and I'll never return.
Report This ReviewPlace was packed. Difficult to get to bar. Once there, service was terrific. Pricey compared to suburbs, but worth it if willing to splurge.
Report This ReviewFood was mediocre, but the service was the worst I have ever experienced in Chicago. Our waiter completely ignored us so that he could court a table of gentlemen a few tables over. He was also extremely rude when we pointed out that he never brought us an item that we had ordered, but it was still on the bill. I don't think I'd even want to return to this place for just a drink.
