Like Groundhog Day

Why do I go back to this place expecting to have a decent experience. I have lived in the neighborhood for years and want to have a good local place to go. So I keep trying and trying and every time it is the same. It is if I was in the movie groundhog day with the same terrible food, plastic plates and smiling owners who do nothing to fix the screw-ups. Every time the steak is cooked wrong with too much charbroiled coating. You see it comes undercooked, then when you send it back they take your plate to the kitchen and return it to you without the steak. Then minutes later they bring back your steak and you notice that it has been pressed down into the grill (to cook it faster) and there is no flavor to the steak. Oh, and now there is even more char on the steak to really dry up any flavor. You might as well just eat charcoal. So while your steak is getting covered in charcoal, you are able to eat your baked potato. I ask you, who can screw up a baked potato. Well, Jury's can. You see the potato is overcooked where the bottom is actually hard. So, then you speak with the managers/owners and they smile very nicely and make some comment about the kitchen being busy. No reduction in the check or a free dessert for having screwed it all up. Can you believe this? This is what happens to me every time. It is like a re-run of the same experience every time. Stay away!! This place is terrible. Maybe we can get a decent local restaurant some day. Until then you would be better off eating groundhog than reliving my experience.

Poor Experience

My husband and I went Jury's for a pre-new year's eve dinner and had a terrible experience not worth the money at all. I ordered the filet with shrimp and he ordered the NY Strip. The first thing I noticed about my plate is that the shrimp were fried. Where am I- Long John Silver? This is suppose to be Surf and Turf? Breaded Shrimp? I ordered a "medium" cooked steak and it was practically rare. They had charred the outside so much you could not tell -till to you cut into it and blood came rushing out. So fine-this happens every now and then. We sent it back and they apologized and agreed it was not medium-and had it cooked again. Brought it back and it was charred even more and still not cooked in the middle as "medium." My husband sent it back again- and they agreed with us again that it was not cooked medium. By the time we got it back it was so charred that it was unpleasant to eat and all the juices had been pressed out of it. ugh. rotten. All the owner could say was- sorry they are just kind of busy back there- is that an excuse? The baked potato was also tough to eat- all around a mediocre steak house and for $20 bucks a plate - we could cook our own steak at home- much tastier and cheaper. If you love steak, do not waste your time at Jurys. Go downtown to Ditkas or Gene and Georgettis. It's worth the $10 difference there.

I have been a patron of Jury's for over 7 years and no other restaurant in the city has consistently provided such a high level of service. I have never had a bad experience at Jury's, you are always welcomed with a smile and the food is always good. The variety of the menu as well as the prices simply cannot be beat. The restaurant itself is also incredibly comfortable. I've been there on a friday night date as well as after playing a round of golf on a Saturday morning. Jury's is a can't miss.

What makes this place is the hand picked wine list, often at affordable prices. The food is okay. For a burger and a few glasses of wine, it's perfect.

Jury's is an old stand-by for pub grub and beyond. They offer good food at reasonable prices. The staff, owners, busboys, are all friendly and warm. The burgers are some of the best in the City. Their nightly specials make dining there a great value...from steak and lobster to fish fry, it's all good. Casual neighborhood place.

Jury's is down the street with my house and with all of the places to go in Lincoln Square they really provide great competition. The atmosphere is great, classybut not uncomfortable and they have a great outdoor patio in the back that has wonderful ambiance at night. The food was phoenomenal, and prices are great. Make sure you check out the daily specials which are a great deal! Oh, and our waitress was so sweet, great friendly service, they make you feel comfortable like you are dining at their home. I plan on going back many times in the future!

Everytime we go here we have a great experience. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the atmostphere feels like you are not even out but sitting at home with friends. With it being a non-smoking restaurant you never have to worry about smelling of smoke when you get home. I've tried a different item on the menu with each visit and have yet to be disappointed with anything. One of my favorite places in the city.

We have tried a lot of different places for burgers and this was hands down the best we have found! We started off with a couple of snake bites with a guac/chips appetizer - very good. (free bread sticks were great as well) We both ordered cheeseburgers and they were awesome. They tasted just like steak. Very friendly staff, smoke free, and the value for the meal overall was excellent! HIGHLY recommend.

Jury's has always been a place that I can compare to Cheers--"where everybody knows your name." I enjoy going back time and time again to see the same group of individuals smiling and enjoying their jobs. I highly recommend this lincoln park gem for great service and consistent food.
