If this downscale sibling of nextdoor's Tavern were located in Manhattan instead of historic downtown Libertyville, it would probably be called a gastropub, and foodies would flock to it. That's because in addition to a lengthy and eclectic international beer list, it also serves a meaty menu of pub fare that has ambitions beyond the usual hotwings and jalapeno poppers. If you're really lucky, the duck fritters served with bousin will be on the menu when you visit. Firkin serves everything without an ounce a pretension and its friendly, knowledgeable service deserves the kudos.
