Get down with ... Flosstradamus
August 25, 2007
Who: Josh Young (a.k.a. J2K), 23, and Curt Cameruci (a.k.a. Autobot), 26, make up DJ duo Flosstradamus. They have 16 years of combined DJing experience, but they ve only been playing together for two and a half years.
Sound: Clubbers get energized and rowdy when the duo mashes a dance-friendly blend of genres, including crunk, rock, house and juke. We mix a lot of genres, but it s not done to be ironic, J2K says. Listen at myspace.com/flosstradamus.
Where: You can catch J2K with Autobot every third or fourth Wednesday at Subterranean , and near the end of every month at Sonotheque.
Sleepyhead: When we chatted with J2K, he had just woken up from a 15-hour slumber. He was catching up on sleep after a busy touring schedule; he and Autobot have been zipping all around North America, from New York to San Diego, and from Canada all the way down to the South.
Staying power: J2K says Lollapalooza was a blast: One of our most exciting, crazy sets was right here [in Chicago, at Lollapalooza] ... We played an entire hour, and people kept coming and coming. The icing on the cake: His sister, club rapper Kid Sister, took the stage after his act and just smashed it. There s video of the performance plus lots of crowd surfing on YouTube.
