We were on a bday guest list & were told we were at max capacity for our party. Staff said they were private on Saturdays & couldn't let "anyone" in without being on a list or having purchased a table. Hello...we were on the list! Meanwhile, others went in w/ no problem. When our party inside complained, the staff let us in except one because of his shoes (he wasn’t wearing gym shoes). First they said there was a $10 cover charge & then it was $20. They tried forcing us into buying a liquor package that lasted until 12(at this point it was 11:20). We said no & the staff "warned" us that a drink would cost atleast $10, Duh. We've had better drinks at better places with much better service. The club was small, had no dance floor & had more drunk people standing around than any actually dancing. Chicago has places with less hype, better service and quality. Btw, our group was a diverse ethnic group & those being allowed entry with no problem were Caucasian.

First of all this place sucks to begin with. And being white I have never been on the receiving end of racism, but I heard how my non-white friends were treated when they were trying to get into Lumen on Saturday night and it was absolutely absurd! They told them they couldn't get in because they were at maximum capacity, but I got there literally 5 minutes later with a few friends (all white guys&girls) and we had no problem getting in. I can't believe that this still happens in a major city in the US in the year 2009. The management of Lumen needs to be alittle less obvious about their racial prefereneces before they end up in a lawsuit. There are a million better places to go in Chicago, don't waste your time here.

"Unless you're white, please take your business some place else." That should be the sign hanging over their entrance, because that's exactly how I was treated when I went there Saturday night 02/07/09. This was supposed to be my wife's birthday party, so to ensure everything went smoothly I contacted the club's PR person and made arrangements for a bottle service. Once we arrived at the club we were denied entry due to 'max capacity'. I was baffled as other people (white only) were allowed in. Next to us was a group of Latinos who had been waiting there for over an hour and had also purchased bottle service and had the internet receipts to prove it. After a short verbal exchange with the bouncer, I decided to take my business elsewhere; the group of Latinos left as well.

I recently went to this bar and my friends and I were treated very poorly. It was 4 degrees out the night we went and we had to sit near the door. First they said it was free for girls and $20 for guys (what a joke, it was only 10pm). BTW you can talk them down on the price. They suggested we check our coats. It was so cold we kept them on. I was then approached by a guy at the door who told me I had to check my coat. I said I would not and he said I would have to take it up with Manager. When I looked around there were plenty of people with coats on and all over the bar. Not sure what the problem what but we left immediately. The place is off the beaten path and with rude staff with ridiculous rules, good luck surviving.
