The owners behind Manor and The Fifty/50, have combined forces on this coming-soon Gold Coast bar and eatery in the former Cactus and Melvin B's spaces (including their iconic patios) in the historic Cedar Hotel building on State Street. It opened Aug. 7 with a limited food and beverage menu, which will be expanded in the weeks following.
With awnings for shade, four TVs and 150-plus of those requisite Viagra Triangle wicker chairs, there's no question the large, tree-shaded patio here will be the main attraction this summer. But unlike the rough-around-the-edges former hangs at this address, you might actually still want to hang out here when the weather cools. A gut-rehab has transformed the entire space (save for Mel B's original multi-colored tile floor) with buttery leather barstools and cedar planks lining the walls nearly everywhere you look.
If you're familiar with The Fifty/50's 24-ounce keeper cups, you'll recognize 'em here filled with vodka-spiked mixes. Expect a smattering of signature eats also imported from The Fifty/50 (baby back ribs, pulled pork sliders and the triple-bacon BBBLT), plus some new creations such as cheddar bechamel-topped fries, honey-orange skirt steak skewers and fancy entree salads. This is the Gold Coast, though, so you can swap out the fries with your sandwich for grilled asparagus, or order a bottle of champagne with your lobster cocktail or oysters on the half shell.
