I live a short walk from Stanley's and after eating there about 5 times over the past year I would not go out of my way to eat there. The food is fairly boring and the service is not great(not terrible either). The prices are on par with other restaurants in the neighborhood. If you are willing to wait Nookies is a better breakfast spot not far away. I like to drink in bars but this place has never struck me as very interesting so I have no idea what the bar area is like.

We've been to LOTS of places in the city for Brunch and always end up back at Stanley's because it has the best price performance. The food is always fresh and they have a great selection, including an omelet bar. The down side is that when it's really busy, the food area is a little cramped, making it more difficult to maneuver. The atmosphere in the bar is - well, it's a bar - but the atmosphere in the diningroom is kitschy - straight out of some place in the back woods of Wisconsin.

If you go for lunch you will have the worst service ever in a restaurant. I do and have always loved the food but the service at lunch almost ruins the flavor. Dinner service isn't bad once you can get the hostess to look up from her podium and acknowledge that there is actually people there. I love you guys but you have to step it up in order to compete in this economy.

My sister and I ate there 10/14/07 the food was great. Big portions and reasonable prices will go back! (Loren from LA)

i am a recent transplant from kentucky. i was excited to find a place with southern style food. instead i found a place that offered up apple butter that had sat too long to even dip our cold cornbread in. after placing our order i had to wait 10min to remind our server that she hadn't brought out any drinks. finally the food arrives and all is better? no... first off the table who arrived 20min after us got served the same meal at the same time. our food was cold and had obviously sat for a while. the gravy was so salty i couldn't eat it. when i was leaving it all made sense. our waitress was making out with her boyfriend at the bar, so we were obviously getting served in between makeout sessions. with the lack of service and the lackluster food, i will never step in that place again and i really wanted to like this place.

I love the food at Stanley's. My group had the pulled pork, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese. Portions are big, food is delicious, great value!

Hey, you want good, home cooking for a more than reasonable price? Stanley's is your place...the restaurant is family friendly and the waitstaff does wonders with crying kids...I should know, there were four at the table next to me. As for the bar area, this place gets packed on the weekends. Live band kareoke is a blast to both watch and participate in. I've read a lot of comments on the snobby staff on metromix, but here's the bottom line. I like a girl with a brain, a body and witty comeback. Stanley's has plenty of them. Be nice to them and they'll treat you like a king.

Stanley's is our regular go-to place. Nice people, good food, good prices. We like the daily specials, salads, and burgers. The portions are genrous so we always go home with leftovers.
We prefer the bar area especially now with the stricter smoking laws in Chicago. When the smoking is gone it will be better!
The restaurant section is always busy with families. A regular hang-out for Chicago's finest as well.
A word of caution: if you go on Sunday for the great brunch, expect a large crowd! It's a popular spot! Holidays especially (Father's/Mother's day etc) and big game days are always crowded so you will probably have to wait.
The patrons are nice and it's a fun time when the games get exciting.
Some of the Cubs come by and hang out on Sunday nights.
