This place is surprisingly upscale for a neighborhood tavern off the beaten track. The rooms' historic feel (the building is over a century old) was enhanced by a 1979 renovation. The kitchen features standard bar appetizers, salads, sandwiches and an entree list tailored to meat and potato lovers. The bar serves a full range of liquors and a modest selection of bottled and draft beers. The laid-back surroundings make the saloon a popular destination for dates and groups of friends. For better or worse, televisions positioned in the bar, dining room and two-table pool room ensure access to sporting events no matter where you are. Brunch starts at 11 a.m. on Sundays. A large enclosed beer garden is open during the summer.
