Fun and lively, great selection of ales/beers for my friend. Livle crowd , great rock n roll plus good bar menu with a couple of vegan options. I rarely spend time at bars but this one always enjoy. Very friendly staff. One woman there servibg friends seemed overworked and a tad cranky but hey.We met a person we hadn't seen in 20 years there.Unfortunately he brought a jerk with him that made open and lewd remarks about the bartendress then followed that with remarks to the barTENDER,,,who was her spouse!
I cannot even believe how well they handled this jerk. I would have grabbed the doorman
and tossed the fool out in the street.
All in all it's a very fun place and run well. Love it.
I heard good things about the bar, but I had the worst bar experience of my life there. I don't care that it's supposed to be "cool" and that all the artists hang out there. It's like the bar knows it has costumers because of the location and doesn't even try. My waitress was horrible. We had to remind her 3 times to bring my drink and a friend a water. I was scorned at for ordering a Miller lite rather than a PBR. The food was standard bar fare. The place is not kept clean. It seems like the owners take no pride in their place and the hipsters who drink there think its cool because its such a dive.
Report This Reviewwe got there about 7:45 and got the last little table in the place. the music was a bit too loud, but we were able to hear each other. nice beer list and you cant beat the value of $2 PBR pints. i had the pulled pork with tots and slaw. very good and good amount, $8. she had the fried chicken with sweet potatoe casserole and greens. it was good. the chicken was a bit dry, but the casserole was tasty, $11. service was there when you needed them. needs a juke box. great place for those who live south of madison and want a simple, no frills place to drink; and eat if youre hungry.
Report This ReviewThis is a good spot, but it's starting to be overrun by the University Village yuppies and University of Illinois at Chicago trixies -- this is mostly the case on the weekends. Still lots of Pilsen locals come here, however. This place can get smokey, so if you're not a smoker, be forewarned.
Report This ReviewIts cool, but a pool table or something to do would make it alot better while your there.
All you can do is sit, talk, eat, and drink...get fater, Chicago's staple.
Very cool laid back place. Crowd is very eclectic and mixed, you see union guys drinking beers next to artists and students.
Report This ReviewNice neighborhood bar with the best mac and cheese you've ever had. (Really. You must try it.) The service was prompt, the food was outstanding and it is a very relaxed atmosphere. Not the most attractive place, but I think the decor is purposeful to discourage snobby corporate types from taking over.
Report This ReviewThis is the only bar I invite people to anymore. The prices are fair, the food is savory, and they play records at a reasonable volume- this allows conversation to dominate. Skylark is no meatmarket- its a genuine watering hole.
Report This ReviewWell, the starving artists USED to have a place to call home, but since "The Break-Up" I'll be shocked if the place isn't inundated with University Village-ites.
