"Our claim to fame is we're River North's neighborhood bar," said owner Mary Gabriel. "And that's what people like about it. It's also priced that way, which is why we do a fairly large volume." Lunchtime and happy-hour crowds are friendly and large in this narrow place, with patrons spanning the socio-economic spectrum. All enjoy the Harp, Guinness and Killian beers and the pool table in the back. "It's a very homogenized group," Gabriel said. "We get gay and straight, white and black, lawyers and construction workers. And there's rarely trouble." St. Patrick's Day party features food and drink specials and live Irish music. "Bagpipes and stuff," Gabriel said. A sidewalk cafe has four tables and seating for a total of 16, popular with those who work and shop at the Merchandise Mart across Kinzie Street. "We always try to introduce new people to the regulars," Gabriel said. "That's how people get to know each other, and they keep coming back."
