Walking through the screen door into Rose's Lounge provides an instant but dramatic escape from the din of Lincoln Avenue. Rose's is essentially a dive -- a safe, quirky dive -- but a dive nonetheless. Rose, a small woman in her 60s who speaks with a soft Eastern European accent, has owned the place since the late 1970s and will most likely be your bartender. Decorative treasures of the back bar include a section of the wall papered with faded foreign bank notes, framed prints with religious and Victorian themes, movie posters, seashell rooster sculptures and a plaster bust of Elvis wearing a Bacardi visor. A 180-degree spin of the stool brings sagging strands of lights, funky tropical paintings, the pool table, dart board (resting on a ledge against the wall) and a couple of small tables into full, hazy view.
