1st review, it's a shame it has to be a bad one.

O'Donovan's used to be one of my favorite hang-out spots in the Ravenswood area. My first few visits were good experiences, but the hospitality had become progressivly worse until I finally gave up on the resturaunt.

First and foremost, I found OD's through a recommendation from my girlfriend. Our first few visits were pleasant, but then a chain reaction of issues pretty much soured my overall outlook on OD's.

The food: The menu is simple, nothing too fancy. My last time visiting OD's, my gf and I ordered the prime rib dinner. We were nothing short of disapponted by its presentation and flavor. The prime rib is fatty, where a small portion of the actual meat can be considered "eatible." The side of mashed potatoes were dry, and still had some powder texture to it. Is it too much to ask for real mashed potatoes? If they are powdered mashed, at least mix them properly, and use salt and butter. The whole meal was bad.

The service: The floor manager is rude and ignorant, plain and simple. I complained about the prime rib, expecting some sort of correction or an apology. I received nothing but a poor attitude and one empty blanket statement, "...that's how our prime rib always is."

Your prime rib is always crap?? That's good to know, I will never be back.

OK, so it's always bland and served like

Last time

I started eating at O'Donovan's about four or five years ago. I've noticed a definate decline in quality since then. Today was no exception. First of all, what type of restaurant uses Taco Bell quality cheese on their nachos- and not even the decent shredded cheese- I'm talking the kind that comes in a can. And our waitress, Ann, never even bothered to ask if we needed anything else before she walked away when the food was served. Anytime she did speak she was looking at the front door instead of atus. I'm done with this place. Oh, yeah and they burned the chicken.

I went into O'Donovan's for the first time tonight. the bartender was awesome!! She remembered exactly what I was drinking throughout the night and made me feel at home!! Several cocktails later I thought i should let everybody else know what a great atmosphere was created for me on a week night (when I usually don't venture out.)

I have been to O'Donovan's twice for thier Sunday brunch, and both times the food was great and the service was lacking. The buffet is the perfect hangover cure, and offers a nice selection of lunch items as well. My only complaint (besides the terribly slow service) would be that the second time I went the buffet was not ready until 30 minutes after opening. Granted, we were there early, but with a 10am open time I expect the food to be ready and warm (some were not). But still, I left happy and full.

Usually enjoy everything about the place but the service has gotten horrible. It was like pulling teeth to get a refill and on 25 cent wing night, our waitress didn't even give us napkins. She looked like she was discusted everytime we asked for something. Will give it one more chance.

I read the Beer Garden Guides review on O'Donovans and must say I was disappointed in their remarks. O'Donovans is a great local hangout with two different large beergarden spaces, multiple party rooms and three bars. When all are open, service is going to be a little slower. This place is popular, and they serve food to every table. Give them a break. The food is a step up from bar food, with great specials. The cocktails and wine list offer a good variety for those who don't want beer. The beer list has some real gems. The staff is friendly and accomodating. Be patient and enjoy.

Decent food and good beer...

Decent food and good beer selection but as a White Sox Fan the fact that they don't ever turn on at least one tv to the sox game is causing them to lose a lot of business. I don't mind it being a Cubs bar but don't bean Anti-White Sox bar. Myself and my buddies have found more accomodating places in the area.

I have been a regular at this bar for the last 7 years! I love the place and think that the service and food only get better. The staff are very friendly and the management go above and beyond, especially when things are not running as smoothly as they could. I love the fun and friendly atmostphere! I must! I go at least 4 times a week to meet different friends there!

Back in the day I ate at this place once a week and loved it. I went back not too long ago and I was completely disappointed. The service was so bad. The server made a mistake on our order and she acknowledged it but made no effort to make amends. The food was beyond bad. It is all frozen greasy garbage. They no longer give refills on their soda. This place serves generic soda at $2 a glass and plastic oil enhanced foods, umm no thanks...i will never ever go back there again!
