Marge's Still

Neighborhood: Lincoln Park
1758 N. Sedgwick St.

Chicago, IL 60614-5722

Price range: $$ ($9-$15)

This Old Town address has been home to a corner tavern since 1885 (it was allegedly a speakeasy during Prohibition), until the venerable Marge's Pub closed in 2001. When the late Marge Lednick ran the place, it had all the dingy charm befitting a 100-year-old tavern – a well-worn wooden bar, pub grub and no frills service. Since the folks behind Old Town Pub and Garrett Ripley's took over the address and re-christened it Marge's Still, you'll hardly recognize it. In fact, about the only thing left from the original pub is the front door (now used as the door to the basement). The resto-tavern now boasts oversized front windows, pressed tin ceilings, waiters with ties and a full menu ranging from house-smoked baby back ribs and rotisserie chicken to burgers and crab cake sliders.
