With so many awesome bars in the area, Mac's should try a little harder. The food isn't bad. The atmosphere isn't bad. But the service is horrible. I've been on two separate occasions and neither server could muster a smile or do anything beyond going through the motions. If I wanted to be treated like I'm doing the waitress a favor by eating there I would move back to Lincoln Park.

I keep hoping this place will get better but it just gets worse and worse. The service is terrible and the food has declined a lot in the past couple of years. It isn't very clean and the atmosphere doesn't have that friendly vibe you need for a neighborhood joint. With so many other places to go with better food, nicer staff and better service I'm done with Mac's.

My husband and I enjoy going to Mac's every Firday night. The first time we went we really enjoyed ourselves, and were amazed by the reasonable prices. Since that first time we have made it a Friday night tradition, just to enjoy each other's company and conversation. We love the outdoor patio, and the service is excellent, and the hot wings are fabulous.

Drawn in by their 4th of July drink specials, I was duped into bringing some friends to Mac's again (I live a block away). As usual, the server was unbearably indifferent and put out to serve us. My friends from out of town were appalled by the fact that she came back half an hour later with the check already in hand and didn't offer to serve us another drink! This is the last time Mac's incompetent service will see my face or, more importantly, my money. Go to one of the many, many finer establishments on the block like GoldStar, Boundary, Smoke Daddy, etc. Better service, better vibes.

I have lived across the street from Mac's for three years. I rarely dine in because of the indifferent waitstaff. I order takeout two to three times a month, but I refuse to do so anymore. The waitstaff gives you no aknowledgement, is incredibly rude, and when they do aknowledge you they speak to you in a condescending tone (which is hard to understand given their sloppy appearance). I don't recommended that anyone go to Mac's unless they enjoy being treated like dirt while they pay for their food and service.

I'm not a fan of the food at all. The service and drinks are hit or miss depending on the servers and bartenders. I go there often because I live so close and I enjoy the bar. It's one of the last places the hipsters didn't take over yet. Most of the bartenders are great, but there are a couple that aren't any good. The service definitely needs work. I think the servers forget that they're actually working for tips. But, I do like the bar and can't count how many times I've been there and will continue to go.

Mac's is officially the best place on Earth and the controversial claim that I made in the Spring of 2006, that it is the best place in the Universe, is still being investigated but has yet to be formally disproven. They serve alcohol and it's really good. The staff is very nice. I have yet to see a popped collar, even on a Saturday night, which is a very good sign.

It could have been better. I know that's a line we tell the ladies every now and then, but it's a line I'm going use for Mac's. I was told by someone at the club that Mac's had delightful burgers. Well my friend they were just okay. With a burger Clive wants beer. First the waitress lady poured me the wrong one and then when I insisted I have the right one it was flat. Cheer up Mac, with all the taco joints in your area kids will still be stopping by looking for a "burger" and a beer.

Sure, the staff turns over (what bar doesn't have its share of drama?) and you have to know what's good to order from the menu (I love the spaghetti and meatballs special on Sunday nights - it's a little spicy). What you always get at Mac's is a great neighborhood atmosphere - provided you sit at the bar. It's a friendly place where regulars and newcomers mingle and conversation ranges from inane to intelligent.
