John Barleycorn

Neighborhood: Lincoln Park
658 W. Belden Ave.

Chicago, IL 60614

Built in 1890, originally owned and operated by an Irish immigrant who moonlighted as a Chicago cop, John Barleycorn has witnessed a lot of Chicago history. John Dillinger often frequented the establishment during the '20s, when it was operated as a speakeasy. Now it's an atmospheric pub that plays classical music, shows art slides on screens around the bar and displays a collection of handmade ship models. An outside patio area has its own bar. The menu features soups, salads and sandwiches; brunch is served on weekends.
