Houndstooth Saloon brings a touch of Southern hospitality to this sports bar-heavy stretch of Clark Street. The tavern boasts quaint touches like a wagon-wheel chandelier and picnic-check wallpaper, adding a country flair to complement a menu packed with Southern barbecue. Salads and appetizers come reasonably priced; meat lovers should try the smoked pulled pork or baby back ribs. "Houndstooth" refers to Bear Bryant, the legendary, and jowly, Alabama football coach who wore houndstooth hats (the bar televises Alabama football games). On weekends the crowd gets younger and hipper, and waitresses slip into jean skirts and cowboy boots.
