just bad

went the green eye to check out their beer selection. met the doorman and owner within a 10 minute period, both were quite rude. clearly we were not their normal hipster crowd and they did not care for us in their bar. will never go back or suggest that anyone else would either. also, tap beer seemed watered down.

a place you go on your way to somewhere else

I like the location of this bar but the bar itself is not my favorite. The drinks are overpriced especially for the kind of joint it is. Also it lacks something to make it fun. I saw a reviewer say that they need a pool table or pinball machine or something and I could not possibly agree more. It's not the kind of place where you settle in for the night. This is the kind of place where you grab one drink while waiting to meet a friend before you head to another desitination. I'm not sure why that is, but it's just the feel I get of the place.

They served me watery Stella!
By Robb from Lincoln Square, November 7, 2008

Once upon a time I enjoyed this bar. I went last night for the first time in over a year, and found it was way overpriced. Then I ordered a Stella, and found the color to be paler than normal, and the taste to be watered down. The bartender tasted the beer, said it tasted fine, and refused to give me a different beer. As a regular Stella Artois drinker, I know how it is supposed to taste, and at the Green Eye, they water it down.

A Pretty Awful Hole
By Kenny Deas from Wrigleyville, April 2, 2008

The only reason people seem to go to this place is it's the only bar in the area, unless you decide to head over to Armitage, where there are places that don't feel like a cave. The service is lousy, and the smell of the place reminds you of a Grateful Dead concert in hell.

The prices are unreasonably high, especially considering where you are. There are better places to go--you just have to walk a few more feet for better service, drinks, and food that doesn't come in the form of a randomly appearing and disappearing tamale guy.

A welcome addition to the neighborhood. Great mixed crowd of people from the neighborhood. Excellent beer selection, friendly staff and the place has a great relaxed mood about it but is still fun.

This is one of my favorite watering holes. I love the people that work there. They are good at remembering me and my preference for the cheapest beer (Pabst 2.00) Its such a great deal and I love the bug inspired lamps on the wall which give this place charm and individuality. I drag my friends here because I love it so much. Stop by for a drink sometime its well worth it and so easy.

Great neighborhood hangout. Very cozy and down-to-earth. Good selection and pricing. This is a great place to kick back and down a few. But since it's a bit too small for a pool table, my vote is for at least one pinball machine.

It's great to have such a wonderful neighborhood bar so close to food and transportation (bus and El). The beer selections and prices are right within my budget.
This is the perfect place to stop for a beer or 2 on the way home (and who says you need to stop at 2?)

The owners- very nice folks - have turned this place into a great mellow hang. Coolness without pretension.
