Friar Tuck
3010 N. Broadway - Chicago773-327-5101
I went this place for the first time on Thursday night and it was a blast. First off they have five dollar mini pitchers of anything on draft. The place is kind of like hole in the wall but it was great, just the right atmosphere for Thursday night Karaoke. There were a lot of good singers and a lot of bad singers so don't feel like you have to be the next American Idol to sing here. If you want to go to a low key bar and sing to your favorite songs I would recommend this place.
Report This ReviewI used to live on Broadway near Friar Tuck in college and spent a lot of time there. The owners and wait staff are awesome and always provide great service (and free shots!) The juke box is always playing the best music, and on your birthday, you take a shot out of a sheeps ass as the rest of the bar cheers you on. I live in Michigan now but went back for my bachelorette party in 2006 and St. Patrick's Day in 2007, and never miss a visit when we are in town. By far, still the best bar in my book!
Report This ReviewCould be the greatest bar in Chicago. You walk in and it's pretty dark and there's always the most random song on the juke box. The type of song that makes you say "man I haven't heard this in years." Kim will be your bartender, no matter what time you go. And your in luck too. She know's everyone in the damn place and will even tell you some great stories about trucking. Grab a bowl of popcorn and a personal pitcher for $5 and enjoy the great people.
Report This ReviewWe went to Karaoke night on Thursday. It's pretty casual which is nice when you want to do something lowkey. They inside of the place is pretty divey, but I think that's to cater to the yuppies. I got pretty tanked and sang. The crowd is pretty friendly and they've got OK drink specials. I enjoyed it and I'll probably go back again. 3 stars.
Report This ReviewMe and a buddy started at Hawthorne and Broadway and walked south along Broadway in search for a watering hole. For various reasons, we passed up on (the few) establishments before deciding to give Friar Tuck a try. Since you can't see anything inside from the outside, we didn't know what we were getting into as we entered through the faux-barrel entrance way.
At first, we were a bit thrown back by the (relatively) older demographic of the patrons -- mostly early thirties and up -- and thought that we would get out after one beer. Before we finished that first beer, however, we were engaged in conversations from other patrons and the wait-staff, and one beer led to two, then a few shots, then another beer... we ended up spending the whole evening there and got to know the owner (Angelo), bartender (Josh) and a few of the regulars that Angelo has introduced us to.
If you're looking for the typical Lakeview / Lincoln Park bar with beautiful looking people and a heaping serving of attitude, you should go elsewhere. If you want to go to a place where good folks hang out to enjoy the company of each other and the laid-back atmosphere, this is the place.
I'll definitely return again, most likely on a Karaoke night, to see what all the fuss is about! :D
Report This ReviewFun neighborhood bar with lots of regulars that know how to have a good time. Karaoke on Wednesdays and Thursdays is hillarious whether you sing or not- and we highly suggest that you sing. The owners are friendly and matter-of-fact, and the staff is on top of things. Good place for mellow weekend nights when you're partied out, and Yak-zees is around the corner and open even later than Friar Tucks.
