Floyd's Pub: User Reviews
Floyd's Pub
1944 N. Oakley Ave. - Chicago773-276-6060
I've been to Floyd's a few times since moving to the neighborhood. I've liked it less each time.
The Good:
The location is convenient if you live in this part of Bucktown. The bar has an unpretentious "tumble in" vibe that's nice if you just want to go have a beer somewhere. Also, unlike the Map Room down the street, Floyd's doesn't get too crowded on the weekends. You won't have to elbow and shove your way to the bar just to get a drink.
The Bad:
The worst part of this place is the food. It really is awful. It's tough to screw up bar food, but Floyd's manages to do this in spades. I've eaten there a couple times with friends and by myself. On one occasion, three of us got burgers and all had the same complaint: meat was too dry, even ordered rare, bread seemed stale. Everytime I've ordered fries at Floyd's, they've been served brown and dry, as though they had been in the fryer all day. Even McDonald's doesn't screw food up this bad.
Also, some of the staff gives off that annoying "I'm only doing this cause I flunked my last year of college" vibe. Not our problem! Smile and serve me a beer, or don't work at a bar.
Report This ReviewI moved to Chicago (Bucktown) in 2007 of which right around that same time discovered Floyds. I have gone back a number of times based on a few good reasons. The beer selection is vast both in type and price. The place is clean and service has always been decent. The best reason of all to me however is the food. I did not expect to find such fresh, quality, and tasty food at a corner pub. Not your typical bar food is my point.
I have tried quite a few things on the menu and everything has been excellent! Something as simple as wings are awesome there as well. We now have a ritual on Sundays (Sunday Funday) to go up to Floyds for food and beers. It's a nice way to enjoy the afternoon! I look forward to it every week!
Bartender/waitress has an attitude. She should not work in any type of customer service.
Report This ReviewWe had a great dinner last night at this quaint and cool Bucktown neighborhood pub. Our waitress recommended a few craft beers and we went for the Blanch de Bruxelles (sp?), a White Ale from Belgium - very nice. There was also a terrific Pear Salad with pecans and dried cranberries that was outstanding and a tuna melt that hit the mark! Friendly atmosphere and nice staff. Oh yeah, we love their "motto": Come for the food... stay and get drunk! We would have had we had more time.
Report This ReviewWe had a party there last night and were very impressed. It's unassuming and quaint which will keep the chaches at bay. Also, the prices were way reasonable for how damn tasty the apps were. The service was impeccable. I couldn't have asked for a better place to hold a thirtieth. If you have a few friends and are looking to mellow after seeing a show at the Gallery, you found the spot. Good for Floyds for keeping it real.
Report This ReviewFood is a cut above most bars. Love the flank steak and the salads. The nightly specials are fantastic. Friendly service if a bit understaffed (and therefore slow) at times.
Report This ReviewFloyd's staff is just plain nice. I appreciate kind and courteous service and Floyd's always delivers. Food is really good bar food. It's also really convenient to rent the back out.
Report This ReviewMy friends and I go here a few times a week and pretty much have since it opened. I don't get the negative reviews because they are really great to all the patrons. They are so down to earth and friendly and will carry on a conversation with anyone. The food is great, I am addicted to the cheese fries and for $2.95 you get a huge plate full of them. Also the triple decker grilled cheese with cream cheese is yummy and the steak sandwich too. They have great salads for those looking for a lighter bite.
Report This ReviewEntered the place in a good mood for food and drinks, but server was cold and rude, and treated us as though we were a complete imposition. Went to another bar for a more enjoyable experience. (Was in the industry for 10+years)
Report This ReviewWe walked into the bar, sat down and no one paid attention to us for 10 to 15 minutes. When someone did come to the table it was the bartender, only to be informed his waitstaff disappeared. He took our drink orders and walked away. Once our waitress did appear, she acted like she hated the place. The food was boring but what I expected from the look of the bar. The best things we had were probably the soft pretzels and the tater tots. The service improved once our waitress realized we were going to stay for a while ordering drinks.
