Durty Nellie's
- 180 N. Smith St.
- Palatine, IL 60067
- 847-358-9150
- Price range: $$ ($9-$15)
The original Durty Nellie's was built in 1620 near the Bunratty Castle in County Clare. (Nellie herself is rumored to be a feisty Irish woman who tended bar long ago.) The Palatine location takes a cue from the original, serving traditional Irish pub grub such as fish and chips in a dim, woody atmosphere. Less authentic items include crispy flatbread pizzas and mac 'n' cheese with your choice of toppings, from goat cheese to spinach to sausage links. The restaurant doubles as a live music venue, featuring everything from rock to house to acoustic sets to cover bands.
