NIGHT MOVES
By Reneas from Humboldt Park, May 26, 2009

Overall rating:

Danny's is a great place to dance & hear great music!!! There's not too many nice places that are affordable & have consistently good DJ's and crowds! The best time to go is during the week in my opinion...often crowded but not TOO crowded. Monthly event called NIGHT MOVES on first mondays was great ... next one on June 1st....Dj's were mixing great 80's sounding dance music (it's an Italo-Disco night whatever that means). Fun Fun Fun!

Danny's deserves better than the reviews below. First of all, this truly is one of the best places to go out and hear DJs spin good, non-clubby stuff. If you like music (esp. classic soul, electro, some indie rock), and bars that play good music then Danny's is your place. Yes it gets crowded late, so come early (9-10ish) if you expect a place to sit. Weeknights are usually pretty low key, but never dead. Again, the DJs are great, and probably the first reason to come here. Some might say the crowd is pretentious, but that's just the pretension talking.

Lots of different rooms and a decent amount of seating, and good music playing. It kind of felt like being at a house party. They have several good beers on tap and good prices. We went on a Friday and it was nice at first - not too crowded, easy to get a drink. But because it's pretty small, it filled up fast and got really crowded and hot inside. So probably better to go here on a week night.

I went to Danny's on a Saturday night and it was pretty packed - it seemed like there was no air circulation and the ceilings were so low that I could touch them. As far as the service - it wasn't that the bartenders were rude, but there is just one small bar area and it is hard to find a space at it.

Overall I think it had a cool design and an interesting vibe - I would rather go back and try it on a weeknight without such a crowd.

Hey barkeep, remember me? I'm the one that has been waving to you for service for the past ten minutes. Could you take your attention away from the poet with the 2 hour old pint to give me a little service?

I've never been around so many people (employees and regulars) that thought they were better than everyone because of their part time jobs at Starbucks, used record stores, and student loan stipends for their art majors. Hope the owner is reading this, because you just lost $40 a week from this wallet.

What a snore. Next time I want to be jammed into a room elbow to elbow with little or no service I'll get on the 56 Milwaukee bus and save my self $30
