Crocodile has been my new Sunday place to go. Im a 9-5'er, but this turned out to be a good alternative to other places for a couple drinks and Great music....starts at 8pm. Every week legendary DJ JesseDeLaPeña has a themed music night or special guest DJ's and MC's. The "free" pizza is a great treat to have for every drink order (not a lot of bars do that), not sure who took care of some of the people who didnt have a good experience or were charged, but on my last 2 visits (Sunday only) the waitress has asked specifically if I wanted a free Margarita pizza with my drink.
Ive been going the past 2 months, and will probably go every chance I get!
I had high hopes for this place when the bartender said we got a free pizza with our drink. We were not going to get food but who can pass up a free pizza, right? We ordered the Buffalo Chicken pizza which was just average by the way and then asked for the check. To our surprise, we were charged for the pizza. When we asked the bartender she told us that only the margherita pizza was free with drinks and then she just shrugged and walked away. It would have been nice if she told us that information upfront. She was rude and this place is not going to last long if they have to trick people into eating and drinking there. There are so many better options for drinking and dining in Wicker Park and Bucktown - don't waste your time with this place.
Report This ReviewFirst off I want to say that I absolutely love Crocodile! The place has a really cool atmosphere and they had freaking Paul Johnson playing classic chicago house in the basement which was an awesome surprise especially since I was celebrating the big 30. Everything was going well until I ordered my first drink. The really cool thing about this spot is that you get a free pizza with your drink, but have you ever heard of cooking a fresh pizza, taking the first bite and still not getting the drink you ordered 15 min earlier. How hard is it to make a damn drink? Well I encountered one of the rudest bartenders ever last night. This guy was more worried about talking to some girl and drinking than taking care of the customers. I hope the crocodile pays attention to these reviews. I never post reviews but I was so upset by the attitude last night that I just had to. I had 10 people with me last night and I took them all down the street.
Report This ReviewNo wait staff-ok its a sunday nite-the bartender was great and made great drinks and we got a free pizza that was jewel pizza good-waited a long time for the second pizza and realized it was never going to come...Maybe try again on a weeknite...
Report This ReviewThe owners of this place, and it's "cousins" in NYC, know how to make a great pizza. But that's just the beginning. The ambience is chill, the drinks are generously poured (even if you're a klutz like me and spill one!) and the wait-staff friendly and eager to please.
The place was quiet the first time I went (late on a cold, snowy Sunday night in December) but the neighbors have since discovered what a great place this is to start, or end up at! The next time we went, on a late Thurs night, the place was hopping and the music was perfect -- not too intrusive but def a part of the ambiance. Overall great vibe, yummy drinks -- try the Jewel of de Nile!
Report This ReviewI went to the Croc for the first time last night. There was no charge for the pizza if you ordered a drink. That's right, a really good pizza, free! The artwork on the walls, especially the mural, were also amazing.
After a couple games of pool, a game of Big Buck Hunter, and of course, another free pizza, we headed downstairs.
The lower level is completely different than the casual bar vibe up top and a bit loungy for me and my friends but the djs defiinitely made up for it. The bartender ended up calling last call too soon but it didn't matter at the point. We'll certainly be back to the Croc soon!
Report This ReviewI would have to say the two stars given is me being generous, as the upstairs bar is very appealing once you get downstairs it will remind you of a bad high school party in someones basement, they spent no time or money on the downstairs "lounge". The drink prices are decent, that's about it.
Report This ReviewNot sure if my Crocodile experience was so bad because it was new, or just because it is a lame place. Im thinking the latter. Bad, unfriendly, sensless waitstaff. Dont get fooled by the free pizza, its very mediocre. I didnt think it was possible to have bad pizza, but i now know that it is. Stay away!
Report This ReviewBeen here twice .. looks like the kinks (and the nervous rudeness) have been worked out. Bartenders are awesome and the vibe and music are great. The cheese pizza is very good, but second time back we paid extra for a specialty pizza and it was a meal.
Haven't been downstairs to check out the DJ's, but the space looks really good. Def a good date place or just hang out and play some pool.and/or watch games. Welcome addition to WP.
Checking out the Sunday brunch pizzas soon
Drinks are cool, place is nice. I wanted to stay later but the closed at 2am. The bartender came up with a lot of drinks on the fly. The place gets and A+
Very trendy and (metro) kinda place..... real "yuppie" but still cool. Good place to get your date wasted. The only problem I had was the Hard close they had at 2 am! " Every one get the hell out" was told to us, among lots of other rude things........... It's a new bar they need to work on their etiquett.
