Cody's Public House

Neighborhood: Lakeview
1658 W. Barry Ave.

Chicago, IL 60657

A classic Chicago corner bar, Cody's has no pretensions. Belly up for a beer and you'll find a decent selection of taps, loads of neighborhood regulars and a low-key ambience. The brew is cheap, too: Pabst Blue Ribbon, Schlitz, Hamm's and Old Style are under $2.50. Owner Geno Frankowski is generous with the snacks, often providing pretzel rods, cheese, crackers, salsa and chips gratis. If you're hungrier than that, it's OK to have pizzas delivered here. Pastimes include pool (one table), darts (a couple of boards) and televised sports (with sound only during big games and NFL Sundays). In the warmer months Cody's beer garden is equipped with a pebble alley for bocce players and outdoor darts. The backyard grill, usually fired up on weekends, welcomes patrons with their own barbecue fixings.

A true neighborhood bar, Cody's is my "old standby." Cheap beer and an amazing jukebox! Perfect for a relaxing night chatting with friends.
