Pinch yourself--Club 505 actually exists. The time warp of this polka hall, located in the far away land of Hegewisch, on the Southeast Side, seems utterly impossible, from the unspoiled 1950s decor to the enlivened old timer spinning his girl to the waitress who gives a fifty-cent piece as change. "The Five" is split into halves. The dance hall side has a small stage once graced by polka greats like Lil' Richard and Lil' Wally; the bar side has a stuffed squirrel playing the accordion. Taxidermy abounds, as do old beer signs and beautiful polished wood. Blackberry brandy sells for $3.25, the same price as an Old Style.
