The Whistler

Neighborhood: Logan Square
2421 N. Milwaukee Ave.

Chicago, IL 60647

Take one part music venue, one part bar and a dash of art gallery and you've got Logan Square's newest addition, The Whistler. Hometown (especially Logan Square) indie bands and DJs will be in heavy rotation at this never-a-cover hang. In the storefront window, you'll spot a site-specific art installation that changes every other month and is viewable only from the street. Inside, sit at the stunningly smooth wood bar or benches repurposed from church pews, or head out to the 50-seat patio. Mixologist Paul McGee (9 times out of 10, you'll usually find him behind the bar and wearing a vest) reverently crafts excellent seasonal cocktails such as the Long-Faced Dove (tequila and Campari with fresh grapefruit and ginger beer) and the Cardinal's Blessing (rum, cherry brandy and yellow chartreuse).

"Great space, long wait and not enough seating!"

By cityguy from Logan Square, October 27, 2008

I liked the hidden hipster style, but not the long drink wait and lack of seating.
