The Whiskey Bar & Grill: User Reviews
First of all, we had the cutest little server EVER!!! Me and my BFF's hit up Rush street post work last Wednesday in hopes of spotting some gold coast hotties to cure our work week blues. Normally I would have charged a regrettable amout on my Visa at tavern but when we saw the wine special in the whiskey window we knew it was our spot, and o, were we right. I don't even want to know how many $5 glasses of pinot grigio I had, but it sure was a great night. Nothing could ever beat it, we will def be back. Highlight of my week, chillest place.

The food was Fabulous, the service was Fabulous. I would absolutely would go back. For two appetizers (chips & Salsa and Calamari) two entrees, two drinks and a dessert was under $50! The chips were fresh, the dips that came along with them were very good. The calamari was great. It's hard to find good calamari that isn't NOT fishy OR rubbery and this was neither. The Burgers were delicious the only thing that was off were the fries, they were a bit salty but still good. For desert we had the chocolate lava cake and all I have to say is I would return to the whiskey JUST for that. Phenomenal!!!

Awesome location with casual bar fare. Nothing stuffy about the staff or the drink prices (if you take advantage of the promotional offers.) Fun place to spend an afternoon and they keep the drinks coming!

I have heard mixed reviews considering the same person that continues to post on this page and changes their mind everytime they attend. For mexican food, the menu is very limited and considering the limitations very bland. My friend and I had the steak tacos and we were not impressed. It is safe to say we would never go back. We showed up for dinner at about 830p and we were out of there by 910p. We thought like we were rushed out of there considering that the restaurant was pretty empty. I dont recommend it at all. The bar attached to it, The Whiskey is very small so its good to start the night, but not worth the price.

The chips and salsa was ok. I had the carne ascada tacos and a side of rice and beans The rice was greasy, but the beans were ok. The tacos themselves were pretty bad, though not in the way you would expect. The meat was very dry and flavorless. There was some lime to squeeze it with but that didn't help much. I asked for it without cilantro because I hate cilantro, so the only other thing on the tacos were chopped onions. Even with cilantro, it would have been a pretty sad dish. I would rather go to Taco Bell than back here.

I am still appalled by the way my friends and I were treated by the staff at The Mexx. Despite OUR attempts to be accommodating to them (which is just insane), the host/hostess staff were repeatedly the most flagrantly rude people I have ever encountered. Don't bother making reservations because it does not matter to the hosts; and don't offer to patiently wait in the bar either because they will still tell you that you are not worth their revenue. A group of six people out to drink (lots) and eat (lots) is not good revenue compared to a bunch of groups of two who want to sit on your patio all night and not drink??? Anyway, the food was merely mediocre and definitely not worth the abuse you'll have to take from the hosts the minute you walk in the door. Avoid this place at all costs!

Ate there yesterday. They were not busy at all and had about 4 or 5 wait staff. Waitress brought our guac out, then 1 minute later brought our food. When I mentioned that we thought the guac would have come out first, she said "yeah, it usually does, but we were really slammed awhile ago and so the food runners were really busy." Never bothered to refill our water, so I went to the bartender and did it myself. Food was fantastic! Servers just need to be better trained in actually serving.

We thought it was fantastic neuveo Mexican food. It was the first time I ever had huitacoche... If and when we return to Chicago we will venture in...
This is not Tex Mex!!!

I haven't been to Whiskey in a while, and I was not impressed with the new Mexican theme. The food was ok, but it seemed out of place in what used to be a hip bar. It was disappointing at best. I prefer the "old" Whiskey where you could have a real drink and people watch all night. Looks like someone sold out.

We will never go back to this restaurant. The food is very overpriced ($9 for three bite-sized tacos with no sides) and nothing special. For those prices, I expect the food to stand out, but in my opinion, it was just below average Mexican food. On top of the lackluster food, our service was very poor. There were 7 people in our party, and we all got served at different times. It was 15 minutes between the time the first person was served their entree and the last person received theirs. Don't waste your time or money at Mexx, there are many other cheaper and better Mexican restuarants in Chicago.
