Hearing all this bickering about hipsters and gentrification just reminds me of how much better the bar scene is in Milwaukee than Chicago. In Milwaukee, hipsters and yuppies share the same bars without all the petty culture wars going on here. Since I moved to Chicago two years ago I am still shocked and disappointed by the sterile and insular nature of the bar scene in this city. For every decent bar in Chicago there are like four or five awesome places in Milwaukee, places that are home to people from every social strata and taste. I expected that Chicago would be even better, but experience has taught me that this is not the case.

This place is fantastic. Music is free, prices are fair, not particularly cheap. And if these poseurs think its changed THAT much since 2000, the only change is that their low-rent shoe-gazing indie music (whatever that is)slacker scene is not (Thank God) hanging out here anymore, taking up space and not buying drinks.
Useta Workthere? Never Again? Time for you two to move on. Its been 2 years now since all of you followers (Yes followers, were you here in 1992? 1995?...No)moved to HP and WP claiming it as your own, when you were already 7-9 years too late for that. Were your grandparents the German and Norweigen settlers here? Or are you Puerto Rican or African American and being pushed out? No? HP never has been your area and it never will be. Now go back to Michigan and complain in your beer about how unfair life is. And leave the rest of us alone.

I concur on Dante's posting.
Like the music oft played here. Dealing with the egos in this place on a Friday/Saturday night left me sad and blue.
It's really 2 bad what has been happening to the people in this area of our great city.

Ok, so The Hawk, (RH) weighs in blaming former patrons of the place for the gentrification of HP? Does RH, a rockabilly KING, know you are using his name? It's an honor to be called a punk by you. Starbucks-styled windows aside, the Clipper's maybe an ok place now, but RH apparently never set foot in it during the period he criticizes.

Reading the reviews for this place is a real laugher. I think some people take "their" bars too seriously. Come on. I stopped by this place a few times this past winter and was one of two to three people there (10-11pm) it was pretty bad. I'm suprised it's still in business... I don't know who can afford the prices and who wants to be involved in some weird conflict/war over who has the right to hang out there.

Awwwww. Lets have a pity party for all of the so-called hipsters that now spend their time writing bad reviews of the Clipper. Just not like the old days when you 'pioneers' used to hang here? Too bad. YOU'RE the ones who gentrified this neighborhood. Acting like artists and wearing skanky retro 70's clothes. Trust me punks, the 70's were NOTHING like what you are pretending they are. Number one, we didnt dress like another era thinking it was kitschy or cool. Those were just the stupid clothes we wore! I LOVE this place now and am GLAD the punks are now out of work and having to move back to Iowa or Winnetka or wherever they are from. Get a life. Laters clowns.

I have revisted the Clipper recently to see if some changes have been made. I must say that it is much more like the old days than ever before. Its not so bad. The positive vibe is slowly coming back. Maybe since Max is gone? More likely than not!!
