The California Clipper

Neighborhood: Humboldt Park
1002 N. California Ave.

Chicago, IL 60622

This restored 1940s speakeasy is known for its authentic retro interior, complete with Art Deco bar, padded booths and vintage posters. Dim lighting, red walls and classic cocktails set a swanky, relaxed mood. The Humboldt Park bar lost some long-time fans after a tumultuous management change a few years ago. But new owners took over in November 2002 and began to return this low-key hang back to its former glory. Live music Friday and Saturday nights beginning at 10 p.m. Expect everything from jazz to rockabilly to country to blues.
