Chicago Tribune & its readers:
I love your dining section, it gives me great reviews for new places
to try and good honest reviews.
However, I would like to take the time to complain about a very well
known Chicago restarurant.
For years, I have been eating with my boyfriend and friends at the
Signature Lougue, a very nice Lounge that is on top of the Signature Room at the 95th.
Yesterday, a friend of my boyfriend came to visit and we waited to get in, as we got in we saw our usual table when I was approached by a gentleman who asked for my ID. I said, I do not have one, and he said okay well you have to be 21 to be in here.
I said, excuse me there is a group of teenage girls to the right of me and children crowding by the windows. Then I asked to see a manager.
I had to wait in the hallway, away from my party and everyone else. After waiting about 20 minutes, a manager came by.
I explained my situation and he said that since I was underage I had to be with someone of age, so he checked my boyfriend and his friends ID's. My boyfriend is 24 and his friend is in his 30s. Then the manager said I still could not be here.
I then told him that I often talk with the other manager and that they had even referred me to their drycleaners after a waitress made an accidental spill on my dress.
He then asked to see the card of the managers and what the name of the cleaners was that I was referred to. I did not know, so he told me that I had to go down the stairs and speak to another manager.
I did as he asked, and the other manager proceeded to tell me he did not believe I had been dining here and that the pictures on my camera of us there before did not mean anything. And that by me being in his dining room meant he could loose his liquor license, even though teenagers and children were clearly present.
He then proceded to the elevators and told me I had to leave.
My argument was that I was treated in a very rude manor, considering that this is a very well known restaurant and is considered to have a great reputation. I am also a well accomplished skater from the Chicagoland area and I often bring clients and potetntial sponsors with me to dine at the lounge and show them the beautiful city of Chicago.
I am just writing this letter because I believe that this is something Chicago should know about, especially with a nice repitable restaurant like this.
Thank you.
Report This ReviewI admit I was skeptical of the Signature Lounge, but upon arriving and waiting in line...I knew it was going to be a hit. We had a fantastic panoramic view in a quiet and classy setting. It was dark, but that seemed to fit. The ambiance is definitely more classy and upscale, with a bit of an old fashioned feel to it. Service is only mediocre (the servers are definitely overworked), but fortunately the drinks are quite stiff...so at $14/glass you'll get your money's worth. I recommend the long island iced tea, though I'm sure everything else is fantastic.
A great romantic place to relax with that special someone, or even just to grab a strong cocktail after work. I'd like to try the restaurant some time soon.
Report This ReviewGreat view, tired decor, crap service.I was embarassed to bring my guest there due to the incredibly rude service.Overpriced drinks that were'nt that great make me think next time I'll go to a decent bar and look at a postcard of Chicago's skyline.
Report This ReviewI had come up to chicago for a weekend to meet some college freinds and they brought me here. Incredible, best overall experience I have ever seen at a bar. I felt like a god looking down from the heavens at the beatuiful view. our waitress operated with the efficiency and persicion of a swiss watch. Definately will come back when im in town. 10 STARS!!!!
Report This ReviewAfter going for the 1st time last night it will surely be my last. The drinks? Way overpriced and awful tasting would be giving them too much credit. The crowd is all tourists wearing whatever it was they were wearing to Navy Pier that day. Don't embarrass yourself or your date and instead go to one of the many other wonderful places Chicago has to offer.
Report This ReviewVery touristy and overpriced. Service was mediocre at best and the food & drinks were much more expensive than they should have been.
So here's the plan- go to the signature lounge for 10 minutes for the view then go to tavern on rush where evrything is overpriced but worth it.
All we had were cocktails. Overpriced cocktails! Forget the appertizers - too expensive and unoriginal. Nice view, but not a place to hang out unless you don't mind throwing away your money. Just go for the view.
Report This Reviewi was there just last weekend and wasnt impressed.i went with a friend that was visiting me from out of town and let me tell you, the mixed drinks were terrible.we both ordered a Godiva martini and it tasted so nasty.someone behind the bar doesnt know what they are doing.they should be imbarassed for charging 10.50 for a drink that tasted to me like a splash of bailey's and grain alcohol.we then ordered another drink,a margarita, not much better.i could of made a better one at home using a mix from the local grocery store.also, our waitress was rather pushy when we ordered the drink and when she gave us our drinks she wanted us to pay right away because she was going on break soon.a big thumbs down.i was imbarassed for taking my friend there.
Report This ReviewI went once after work and loved it! We only got drinks, but they were delicious. I just considered the high price as paying for the atmosphere; we sat and enjoyed the view for over two hours. No complaints about the tourists snapping photos, no complaints about the service, and the crowd was nicely dressed. Definitely want to go back!
