The smooth sounds of R&B fill in the background at this South Side watering hole, which has been a neighborhood standy for the past 50 years. The teal, oval-shaped bar takes up most of the well-lit front room and, on weeknights, is packed with the after-work crowd. People talk across the bar, comfortable and friendly with each other and with the bartenders. Posters line the mirrored walls, advertising Tuesday night $1 and $2 drink specials. Weekends are even busier – loud, playful and loose. In the back room, complete with another bar, tables make way for a dance floor, the hip-hop music is pumping and couples of all shapes and sizes shake the night away.
