Hard Rock Cafe, Part Deux

The press on the place has been nonstop since it opened, so I stopped in today, at lunchtime, for a beer and an appetizer. My bartender, who barely looked 21, could not have looked more bothered by being there. I ordered the Rockit Pockits and a beer. My appetizer was very overfried and it tasted like maybe the oil in the fryer needed to be changed. The music playing was extremely cliche for a "rock themed" restaurant (hence the Hard Rock review title). Green Day followed by "Stairway to Heaven"? The only thing missing was one of Eddie Van Halen's guitars hanging above me.

Do Not Watch the Hawks Here

I live in the RiverNorth area and earlier this year I was in Rockit and wanted to watch the Hawks when they were in Florida. I ask the bartender if they could put on the game. He told me. "We don't usually show Hockey Here." So I was forced to watch too college basketball teams instead. That was the last time I went there. Now they pretend to be "the Place to Be for the blackhawks" Forget that.

CHECK IT OUT!!!!

This place was too fun! I haven't really seen a place that plays the old rock and hair band music of the late 80's and early 90's like this place. The staff was friendly and got the drinks "just right"... Being relatively new to Chicago, I check out lots of places-- but I could be happy making this "my hangout"

I get into Chicago about every 2-3 months to stay for a few days. I always try to have at least one meal at Rockit. Great staff, good prices, the Lobster Burger is my favorite!

Very,Very Average

There are so many fabulous restaurants in the city that are unique and outstanding...this is NOT one of them. If I didn't know better I would have thought I was in a run of the mill chain restaurant. Boring menu and staff has the impression that they are pretty special....I had much higher expectations. You can find friendlier, more fun, imaginative menus at a dozen other places in the River North area.....and a better price tag

Great Service!

Went to Rockit a few months ago for a good-bye party for my friend who was moving to LA. We didn't have a reservation but were seated within 15 min. I order the lobster gnocchi and a few minutes later the manager appeared & apologized that they were out of lobster. He comped my meal and 2 rounds of drinks for our entire table for the inconvenience!

Crazy

I feel like most of these negative reviews are posted by competing business owners and managers in the area who are trying to keep up with a great restaurant and bar. If you haven't been here, then definately check it out!

The food here is really good with several stand outs and a few misses. The Kobe burger that they have is amazing, not your average burger and has a different but delicious flavor. Best sweet potato fries in the city, hands down! The butternut squash is ridiculously warming in these cold times. The seafood dishes were surprisingly awesome! Our friends loved the Salmon Pasta! Salads were all big portioned but just above average.

Crowd is quite a mix. It's got a range of mid 20-somethings to mid 30s. DJ plays great music and overall atmosphere is FUN! Service was fantastic! Our server was attentive and we never had an empty drink! The bartenders mixed great cocktails, although their cocktail menu feels unoriginal and wasn't anything special. With that being said their Dirty Girl Scout and Pear Martini were exceptional. Hot cocktail girls. Probably the fastest and most efficient, yet sometimes rude bartenders I've seen in Chicago, though that could've been because they were slammed. And who isn't annoyed by bachlorette parties?

Overal, B+. Not as young and "fratty" as some of the other bars in the area. Enjoy it for what it is!

Great atmosphere, great bartenders
By dparm1984 from Oak Park, October 8, 2008

Rockit has a great ambiance -- not too loud, not too quiet. The lower level seems like a great place for happy hour or just relaxing with some friends. We opted to do cocktails and appetizers after work and I was pleasantly surprised. The drinks were well-made, and the appetizers were tasty (although small for the price). Service was a bit slow, but perhaps they didn't want to interrupt our conversation. Either way, I had a pleasant experience there for a few hours during a weeknight. I plan to return.

HORRIBLE Service
By eep86 from Chicago, September 21, 2008

I went to this place on a Saturday night for my friend's birthday. Let me start out by saying that I love going out in the City and always enjoy my time out.

Rockits pretty much destroyed it and I will never go there again. The bartenders were extremely rude and talked about another customer in front of them, me, and other customers. I was shocked.

When I opened up a tab, I was told in a condescending voice what the minimum purchase was ($25). Then when I turned around to confirm the birthday girl's order, the bartender had already turned around and started talking about me to the other bartender. I ended up getting 2 Vodka Waters and half a shot of Tequlla (with no salt or lime) for $26.

Later when we got a table, the server totally overcharged us. When we made her aware of this situation she told us that we were wrong and to "pay up". My friend knew one of the managers and said he was going to talk to him. The waitress then finally realized that she made a mistake and took well over 30 minutes to fix it and close our tab.

Rockit's has HORRIBLE service. About 20 of us left there pretty disappointed and offended. Don't waste your time.

Disappointing
By KasiaP from Lakeview, August 25, 2008

I've been to Rockit few times. Ok, hang out place. Never had a problem with a server but my last visit was very disappointing. The waitress that was waiting on us was impatient and rude and at the end of the night she had a nerve to make a comment about her gratuity. I always tip, 20% most of the time, but if a server is rude I will tip less, that’s how it works. I really hope that management takes this seriously and retrain its staff and teach them what customer service is about.
