We went there on a Tuesday night... the tapas were over priced for the quantity and quality. The skirtsteak was to die for... it just melted in your mouth. However, all the other food we ordered was definitely not up to the mark- the dates wrapped in bacon was overdone, the goat cheese tasted like tincture, and the patatas bravas was a total disaster.
However, the Sangrias were awesome... and that made up for it all. The ambiance to some extent would take you back to Spain.
No matter when I am in the mood to eat, there is a plate to match my craving at People. I've been there dozens of times and it only gets better. I love the potatoes bravas, the skirt steak, and the goat cheese. I've brought tons of people here and they all have loved it. I'm not really sure what others are talking about concerning the poor food quality. I think with the new chef it has certainly gotten better over time. I will detinitely be back soon!
Report This ReviewI've been here both to eat and just for drinks. The food is really good and the waiter always gives great suggestions, but the sangria is basically a $20 pitcher of watered down juice.
Report This ReviewI have been eating Tapas for years and the tapas at this place are not to be compared to others that have been around for years. The flavors explode in your mouth and the Martinis are just as good!!! Worth every penny...
Report This ReviewGolly gosh, wait a minute for me to finish the food before you take away the plate! Don't get the steak:( do get the ceviche:) dates and bacon... Had a brain storm whilst engulfing this tapas staple - cut the date open, stuff it with a piece of ham and a slice of Swiss - then wrap it with bacon. Maybe I'm out of my mind here but I love to eat. Put a lot less ice in the sangria and people will tip more. Oh, and the dude who brings out the food- the one with the blonde mustachio-can you annunciate a little- I want to know if I'm getting churros or chumble mumble.
Report This ReviewThis is my favorite place to go for a chill & fun night with a group of friends.
Service is always top notch and food is consistently delicious. The skirt steak, spicy
potatoes and goat cheese are always the must order dishes. They change the desserts once in a while but fortunately my favorite, the chocolate cake is always on the menu.
I only wish they did the $10 sangria pitchers on the weekends too.
Ate there for a friend's birthday last night and we were surprised at the poor service and food. We'd all dined there before and had good experiences. Not sure if there's been a change in management? Food and service was uninspired. People has never served up the most authentic tapas dishes in the city, but it doesn't seem like they're even really trying to do Spanish cuisine justice with what they're putting out?! We opted for a bottle of wine after having 2 pitchers of the watered down sangria. Server was disinterested and passed up opportunities to make helpful recommendations (i.e. pointing out portion sizes of menu items - if an item only has 3 pieces, perhaps suggest we order 2 to that our party of 6 can all try it). The bartender was great and seemed genuinely interested in our experience - the only bright spot in the service.
Report This Reviewwent there for the first time after a recommendation from my friend who lives in Wicker Park. I've had tapas in Spain before and I didnt expect too much from a neighborhood tapas bar in Chicago. However People Lounge delivered some near perfect results! I have to say some dishes are definitely served non-traditional with a twist and some are actually quite authentic. Sangria is the best I had in Chicago as well as the scallops, tortilla (non traditional) and papas bravas & gambas (traditional style). I highly recommend this place, even if you don't live nearby it is worth a trip. Be warned though, there is DJ od live music after 10pm and it does get a bit louder.
Report This ReviewMy husband and I just went here on Saturday night. we had been about 6 months before and had GREAT service (sat at the bar) had great tapas and wonderful sangria. we were excited to go back, but sadly, we won't ever return. The service was ok, not great, but ok. The food was almost inedible. We ordered meatballs and the came out COLD! We asked for new ones, and they brought out another plate that was still cold. Cold meatballs is pretty disgusting. All the other tapas were mediocre. Nothing blew us away. A lot of it didn't even really taste like traditional tapas, just strange concoctions the kitchen came up with. you could tell everything was already cooked, just waiting for someone to order it because nothing was really hot.
The sangria was ok, but for $19 a pitcher, they filled the whole pitcher up with so much ice that we both got about 2 glasses out of it. I looked at other tables and some other tables didn't have any ice. A second pitcher we had even more ice. They also would clear the plates and drinks before we were even finished. We had the churros for dessert and they were pretty disgusting, we both had one bite and decided it was just time to get out of there. Our bill (for 2 people) came to $150!! Way overpriced for crappy food, and bland service.
This place is for people who never had tapas and don't know any better. I say go to Iberico's or La Espanola en Berwyn. Now those are tapas.
I will NEVER go back to this dive. Their patata bravas made me LMAO when they brought them to the table. Dry chopped up potatoes with nacho cheese over them. lol NO JOKE lol
The calamari & gambas were aweful. The other entrees sucked too. Everyone complained. It was a total insult to hand out the food to customers. Do yourself a far and go find other tapa places.
