Moxie
3517 N. Clark St. - Chicago773-935-6694
I went to Moxie for the first time a few weekends ago. When we got there the place was packed, we had to wait for a little while to get a table but we drank some strong martinis while we waited. They had a DJ spinning awesome music-a mix of house and top 40's. My girlfriends and I got a few plates to share and we also sipped on champagne and martinis. My favorite dishes were the lobster rangoon, crabcakes and satay, but everything was delicious.
I have decided that Moxie is now one of my fav bars on the North Side. It's trendy (especially for Wrigleyville-it reminds me of something you would find in Bucktown), fun, young and classy.
I suggest skipping the average sports bars in the neighborhood and heading straight to Moxie. My only complaint is that they don't really have a dance floor. They do have hot bartenders though!

I received a flyer under my condo door advertising Moxie as having "Dining" which indicates that it is more than bar food and I was expecting service. I live in the area and decided to try it out. I figured 7 P.M. was a safe time as most restaurants in Chicago fill up on weekends around 8:30. Just to be sure, I called for reservations and they seemed shocked that anyone would do such a thing and it took them about 5 minutes to actually get someone on the phone and I wasn't put on hold, so I heard the whole conversation.
I arrived at the restaurant on time and was surprised to find a very loud bar with disco music playing loudly and no one at the host stand. Someone from behind the bar shouted that someone would be with me shortly. I waited for someone to seat me and this took about 5 minutes. The waitress seated me and informed me immediately that service was going to be very slow as she was the only one working (on a Saturday night!!!) Against my better judgement, I stayed as it was too late to make reservations elsewhere. IIt took 30 minutes to get a drink and an hour before the first bit of food arrived. We had: Wings (overly sweet and not spicy), Seared Tuna (decent quality but WAY salty and oily on the greens it was served on), Filet Mignon (WAY overcooked and nearly tasteless...arguably the worst I have ever had), Mashed Sweet Potatoes (inedible and cold), Tempura Shrimp (wasn't tempura and the batter all fell off, incredibly over-sweet sauce), Bruschetta (Burnt!!!), Jerk Pork (Can't say how it was as it never came) My drink was empty nearly the whole time and it took 30 minutes to get someone to give me a check!! EVERYONE eating was leaving and MISERABLE!! They need to spend time and money on a Chef and Manager before doing any mailings. This place COULD be a hit, but WOW!! One of the worse experiences I have EVER had. STAY AWAY!!!
They have the best specials and atmosphere. The crab cakes and ancho steak are amazing. It's great here, I go at least 5 times a month
Report This ReviewIf you're tired of the usual drunken tool-like atmosphere of some of the bars in the area, try Moxie. You can't beat $5 martinis on weekends, and their food is great. The staff provides great service and are a lot of fun (including Ramone the DJ, whose musical choice is fantastic). I'd definitely recommend this place.
Report This ReviewWoe betide anyone hoping to dine in the vicinity of Clark & Addison just as a Cubs game is letting out! Yet that’s the spot we were in prior to a Live Bait Theatre performance on this lovely summer evening. Fortunately, we had a reservation at Moxie (not the first place that the average post-game Cubaholic heads for), and fortunately it was in the rear patio area, somewhat removed from the crush on Clark. The staff remained friendly and poised as the crowd built, and we enjoyed a tasty selection of small plates. Ancho flank steak was our favorite, with tender beef smothered in sweet grilled onions and dosed with a creamy chimichurri-style sauce. Peppery roasted potatoes also hit the spot, as did a pork and plantain dish billed as jerk pork, but which we characterized as sweet maple pork. A Caesar salad was just so-so, plain and a little gloppy. Moxie has a compact wine list with reasonably good choices for the menu (and at pretty good prices by the bottle). The only downside was the suave Cubbie fan at the next table who felt moved to indulge in a stogie (apparently legal in outdoor seating areas). Tres chic. The food was good, though, and considering the adverse situational circumstances, the dining experience could have been much, much worse…
Report This ReviewIve been comming here for awhile so I figured I should write a review. This place is really a hidden Gem in a street full of college bars. It has the feel of an ultra lounge and the food of a great restaurant.
The staff is very fun and outgoing. The DJ is sick and the bartenders make some of the strongest martinis Ive had...Hello sunday morning hangover...well worth it!
Report This Reviewi absolutely love this restaurant. They have such great specials during the week....and they have $5 martinis on the weekend, who can beat that? i've actually had the sangria and I think it tastes pretty good. And it's 1/2 off on Wednesdays. Love it!!!!!
Report This ReviewWent with a girlfriend to enjoy the weekday sangria special. It tasted just like welch's grape juice - with good reason. The bartender told us that's the main ingredient. Terrible. Headed to Bar Celona across the street instead for tasty Sangria (and cheaper than Moxie)!
Report This ReviewMoxie was a nice change from the clark street typicals like sluggers and Barleycorn. It was really crowded on a saturday night...But the crowd was young and friendly, the drinks were good (Although a Little Slow to serve them and take my order) and the music was bumping all night. Ill be back when the gardens open up.
Report This ReviewExcellent martinis. didn't try the food but maybe next time. The place was very different for Wrigleyville. Overall great but a better dj would help.
