Bucking the hotel-lobby-as-living-room trend popularized by the W Hotel chain, the bar at the Sofitel Chicago Water Tower is removed from the activity of the concierge and registration desks. Located on the Wabash Street side of the lobby, it offers a fabulous view of the park across the street and is an excellent vantage point for people-watching. Fashionistas mingle with the suits as energetic music pulsates in the background. Fiber optic lighting and a sweeping wood-and-stainless steel bar create drama. Le Bar specializes in martinis poured tableside. The comfortable yet modernly appointed seating complements the vibrant atmosphere. Champagne and wine are available by the glass, as are several premium spirits, including small-batch bourbons, single-malt scotches and port. Le Bar also features a nouveau "His" and "Hers" cocktail menu with drinks expressing characteristics of each sex. Hers: Delicate yet complex cocktails such as the Backyard Blackberry Margarita, a blend of hand-pressed blackberries, fresh thyme, premium tequila, fresh citrus and champagne. His: The manly Sazerac, a rye whiskey stirred with healthy dashes of Angostura and Peychaud bitters.
