turning around.

I have been to the edge a few times......the first time that I went there it was slow and the staff was slow as well and they didn't have very many drink specials. I thought I would try it again and give it a second chance because they were having a special. WOW what a difference. The owner there was very nice and got our first drink, the bartenders were on top of their games and I really enjoyed myself. I decided to go back for an art show that they had there and it was great again and loved how they incorporated local artist into the bar. I think that the edge struggled at first, but is not starting to turn things around with their drink specials and getting more invoved with the neighborhood........I think thinks are starting to look up :)

Edge of disaster

The food and drinks are overpriced and the club owner is rude. This place will probably not last long at all.

Snarky Bartender

About 10 people in Edge at 5pm on a weekday. Sat at bar w/friend. Bartender said "what can I get you?" I said "do you have any house specialties?" Bartender walks away from us saying "come on people, I don't have time for this". We walked out, crossed the street and had a nice drink at Fuel.

Will never come here again--horrible!

We reserved a few tables last night for a friend's birthday at Edge about 3 weeks ago. When we got there last night, there was not one empty table and the manager acted like he had no idea what we were talking about. He tried to give us one table outside on the patio, when it was cold out and there were 16 of us. He finally dragged some patio tables inside and squished them up front with a promise that he would find us a booth in 30 minutes. We tried ordering appetizers, but we were told that basically every thing we wanted was out. My husband ordered a mojito for me, and the bartender told him that they didn't serve those. Another friend repeatedly tried starting a tab with the bar, and was told each time that he could not do that, when it was apparent that other people were. Service was extremely slow--I had to wait about 20 minutes just to get one drink. The manager did not apologize for the inconveniences, nor did he comp us any drinks.

Boring
By ChicagoRockSTAR from Lincoln Park/Lakeview, April 22, 2009

Edge has a sleek, sexy interior but it lacks personality. It's boring and there's rarely anybody in there. The food is okay but really small portions. If you haven't been there, you aren't missing anything.

Yikes
By Coral from Logan Square, March 4, 2009

This place is a creative vacuum. I feel less unique for having been there. The only thing "Edgy" about this place is the fact that they have no drink menu, bar food and lame music and they think they'll cash in on all the new money moving into the neighborhood. I recommend Boundry or Estelles if you're set on staying in that part of town.

Do you like the vibe of airport bars?
By The Antihipster from Andersonville, December 7, 2008

The only reason this place gets one star is that on the night I went they had a rather good cover band playing and charged no cover (note this does not include the man after who played a solo set on guitar - he was awful).

The bar has no character. Nadda. Zero. Zip. The place was as cold temperature wise as it was style wise. The clientele were a strange mix of yuppies and locals who would like to be yuppies and surprisingly unfriendly and rather rude. The drinks were overpriced and took way too long to get to our table and over 15 minutes had passed from the time we asked for our check to the time it arrived.

I agree with others who said that the layout of the bar is poor and it made trying to enjoy the cover band or even going to the john difficult. Also once the band was done playing the music the bar played was way too loud to talk over which made the noise in the entire bar worse and impossible to hold any kind of conversation in.

Basically if you are in the area I have to say I would recommend going to W Cut Rate Liquors instead OR at least hit it up first so that Edge is easier to take.

Lacking
By Mountaindropper from WP/East Ukrainian, November 29, 2008

I am a frequenter of all of the local eaterie/drinkerie's of the area, and I decided to see if Edge had what it takes to 'cut it" in this 'hood. If this is what we have to look forward to after the Pontiac closed, we are in for a bumpy ride.

As soon as you get to the door, there is a sense of awkwardness in the layout of tables. the flow isn't very conducive to mingling with anyone except the folks at your table. The music was all techno, with no mix...which either you like or hate. My date and I thought our ears were going to start to bleed, since there was no variety.

Overall, the place lacked personality...which could be corrected with some interior design assistance. The other faux pas was that the men's room was before the women's... etiquette anyone? Chivalry does seem to be lost these days.

There was an interesting black and white movie playing on the big screens, which was cool, but not enough to make you feel as though you weren't in a clean room.
Our server was pretty solid, and friendly but the bar was lacking basic liquor options, which can be easily fixed also.

Overall, I'd say that I will not be going back to Edge unless someone else is already there, and I'm meeting them. There are a lot of great classic local hangouts, and I really hope we don't lose more of them. I'd say visit them instead. Sorry Edge, keep trying and you could maybe win me over.

Excited to Have Edge in the Neighborhood
By ChiYanks from Wicker Park, November 23, 2008

Overall rating:

I have never reviewed a night spot before, but Edge has provoked me to do just that. Our experience was very satisfying. It began with us walking in at 11 on a Saturday night to a full room. We were greeted and had a table literally put together for us by a man who we later learned was the owner. He mingled among the crowd all night. Our table was only several feet from the door and the cool night air never nipped us once despite its frequent passage.

Dark tables, chairs, and booths scattered throughout the space are comfortable for people of any height. Streetlight floods in the enormous eastern windows casting its sleek shadows on otherwise dimly lit faces. Coupled with the flat screens above the bar that will not be showing the game but maybe a 40 year old Brando classic, the colorless room exudes a natural warmth that is hard to come by these days.

The DJ spins mostly calm untrained lounging beats, but will occasionally mix in an uber-popular track. As the new bar competes among its diverse patrons for an identity, I believe the 30 somethings with an eye for sophistication and a desire for serenity lounging will populate and the youngsters will recede back to Boundary to fraternize over Bud Lights.
