Why the hell not.

Drinks are pretty cheap, staff very friendly and fun even to out of towners, great music! only drawback is the hipsters swarming it. and the bathroom is actually beautiful!

Looks like I'm not the only one.

Judging by the other reviews about this establishment, it seems i've had poor service as well. I've been there a couple times and every time the " too cool " bartender is busy being too cool to notice you. I had to wave money in the air to get his attention. I also received an incorrectly poured Guiness, then later started getting them in smaller plastic cups. huh? This place could be so much cooler! Wish i could buy it...

Bad Service
By caifane_01 from Sox Country, July 7, 2008

I"ve been there a few times already and all those times the service has been absolutely terrible. Place has potential but everytime that I go to the bar and order a drink it's a minimal 5-10 min wait before they notice you. Even the waiting staff is bad when it comes to sitting down to order food. I really don't recommend this place at all.

Nothing special
By Laura from Lincoln Square, March 8, 2008

This place can't decide what it wants to be is it a dive or is it a yuppie joint? If it weren't for the music, I wouldn't know I was in a "Metal" bar. I'd assume I was in the House of Blues annex or something. The decor is that of any yuppie bar lately, trendy lighting fixtures, a snappy looking bar.

We went Friday after work to try it out and while we enjoyed the $4 Stoli specials, we had issues with the food. We just wanted a small snack and ordered fried artichokes... again - is this place a trendy yuppie bar or a metal bar? Fried artichokes are something I expect to find on the menu at the House of Blues. The waitress comes back with one set of silverware and one napkin (for two people) and asks us if we'd mind sharing because they're low on silverware. Can't you wash a fork? Fine...but we need more than one napkin... durr.

In the end, this place is nothing special and, based on its out of the way locale, not worth another trip.

All bark, tiny (cobra) bite
By Simple from west loop, February 1, 2008

For all the hype surrounding this newer west loop venue and its "rough, yet polished" description, I was a bit surprised. It is an alternative to those foo foo randolph street bars, in my hood, so I was very excited about that. and any place that has live music for no cover is also a plus. but i must say my first time at this place was just "ok". our friends band was playing on a school night along with 2 other bands, so i went to support and check it out. my first impression was that it looked like any other wicker park type of joint, minus the superstar interior design elements. but i was shocked to find out that a mixed drink, in a plastic cup cost 7 bucks! and the band playing area had booths in it! as in a family goes to denny's to get breakfast type of booths. kind of ill-planned for the performance area in my opinion. however, the doorman was the nicest, coolest dude to talk to. so all in all, good people, fun live music, no specific "rock" frills, and stick with the beer. i will go back some day, but not in a hurry.

First this bar is by...
By Douglas Koelm from Chicago, IL, June 5, 2007

First this bar is by itself way far away from anything else so it is an expensive pain to get to. They have some good drink specials and the drinks are poured well. However the food was terrible and the management failed to resolve our concern and even worse failed to apologize or really handle it at all. The music was too loud and the bartenders too cool and detached to really add much personality to the place. For someone who loves rock n roll, I was disappointed.

In a neighborhood full of...
By Jeremy from Chicago, IL, September 9, 2006

In a neighborhood full of pretentious bars full of yuppies with striped shirts, The Cobra Lounge offers a haven for those that love rock and roll and muscle cars.
The staff are some of the most laid back and cool staff around, with witty one liners and the same service you would get at an upscale joint.
The Cobra Lounge lives in the spirit of The Twisted Spoke, Delilah's, Estells and The Exit. The Décor and the staff set it apart from these places but it actually fits in the west loop. The Jukebox is one full of rock, punk and local music. Everything from Naked Raygun and Pegboy to Marley and The Cramps. Plus they have live music!! You will never feel the need to dress up for this down to earth club. Viva Cobra Lounge!

My girl and I went...
By joe from chicago, il, July 23, 2006

My girl and I went have been at Cobra every Friday since they opened. We love the music and the atmosphere but most of all we loved Annie the bartender. We were saddened by her sudden departure to points unknown (Paris? Milan? Rio?) Who knows. Left behind are some of the biggest morons to ever work in a bar. From rude managers to sullen bartenders this place has it all. Skip Fridays maybe the other days of the week are better.

Wedsday nights are the best!...
By Rob from chicago, il, July 11, 2006

Wedsday nights are the best! Less crowded than the weekend and more one on one time with Annie-the hot bartender. $3 guiness and jamison-cheaper than credit hours at NYU!
