Great...Until they changed their menu

My fiancee and I live in the neighborhood and used to eat at Charlie's regularly. About a month ago, they completely re-hauled the menu -- taking off some of the best items they featured and my particular favorite - the Talapia Caesar Salad. While I'll probably go back just because of the convenience, I have been boycotting it out of irritation. Even the wait staff agrees that the changes were not well thought out. Other than the now sparse menu - the food always comes out good, the wait staff are very friendly and its got a great atmosphere.

I used to go to the Andersonville location quite a bit, but hadn't been in a couple years. Last Friday a friend and I left work in the loop and hopped on the #22. It took us over an hour to get there but it was worth it. Our server was fantastic and the food was homey and tasty. The Toll House Pie is pretty dangerous, but we loved it! We're going to make that hour long bus ride a regular Friday excursion!

The burger was big, juicy even. Salty fries. My wife enjoyed her salmon sandwich. Nice to go on Wednesday night, not much of a crowd.

A hit-and-miss affair in Andersonville

Charlie's has been located in Andersonville for several years now, and I have been to the restaurant/bar dozens of times .. and I can report that Charlie's is a thoroughly inconsistent experience. One time I'll get great service and food, then the next time the food is good and the service bad, and then the service will be good and the food stinks. I never really know what the experience will be like. Sadly, there are few moderately priced restaurants in the Andersonville business district, so we in the 'hood are kinda stuck with very few choices. Charlie's is certainly serviceable, but definitely nothing special.

the food here is ok, but my server was phenominal. shamus was so friendly and made the whole experience wonderful. the food really wasnt that good but his service was great. he was friendly and made the whole thing worth doing again. i would recommend coming here to a friend as long as shamus was the waiter.

I have been to charlies about a dozen times in two years after being recommended to it by a friend. The food is good the service is great. I was really shown 4-star plus service St.Pats night. i went with my girlfriend and her two out of town guests. My other four friends then called and were coming there. We had already been seated and ordered but the hostess was kind and committed enough to get us a table for 8 and transferred everything - we were able to have some quality time with our friends thanks to her !!!

Listen..If you want to impress somebody head downtown. If you want to relax, have a drink, and order a burger choose Charlies. Lee, the bartender, is second to none. The food,not that is is bad, is what you would expect for the price. The same people that put down Charlies are the same people you see at @mosphere sucking down cheap pitchers of miller light! Try it, I guarantee that you will like the place. Please, if you rent an apartment and take the train, like most people in the neighborhood, you will find Charlies suitable for your needs. If you do the aforementioned and want to pretend that nothing is ever good enough for you..then grab a $20 cab ride downtown with yo ghetto fabulous paycheck and pretend to be something or somebody that you are not. P.S have a beer or two at Charlies then Grab a Hueys hotdog, fries and the number 22 bus to Wrigley....man summertime is great!
