Angels & Kings
- Neighborhood: River North
- 710 N. Clark St.
- Chicago, IL
- 312-482-8600
Brought to you by Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz and partners Matt Eisler (Empire Liquors, Bar DeVille) and Stephen Westman (The 44th Ward Dinner Party)—plus celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton—Angels & Kings brings a gritty rock 'n' roll edge to River North. Yeah, this spot has star-studded appeal. But it has substance too. Get ready for live band karaoke hosted by Fall Out Boy’s Joe Trohman (when he’s in town), Angels & Queens night for the GLBT crowd, and AK47 industry night. The lounge boasts a raw and edgy aesthetic, yet it still manages to feel laidback and comfortable. Bench seating lines the wall opposite the bar, while a couple of large gangster booths and an elevated platform with couches cover the front half of the space. Oversized celeb mugshots of James Brown, Janis Joplin and Ozzy Osbourne—just to name a few—grace the walls, while smaller shots of Wentz and wife Ashlee Simpson-Wentz hang on the DJ booth. More playful touches: Bathrooms are covered in chalkboard paint, a yellow halo lights up above the DJ’s head, and there’s a huge gong behind the bar for the staff to ring when a big shot buys a "gong shot"—meaning everyone in the bar gets a shot.
