Exceptional Evening

My husband & I celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary last night at 404 Wine Bar. The staff made the evening very special for us. We arrived to find a reserved table and the waitress immediately poured us each a glass of sparkling wine, on the house. This was very nice and unecessary. We shared the caprese salad and each had a pasta dish. Portions were perfect size so you feel satisfied but not stuffed. We asked to see the dessert menu; however, the waitress told us she was bringing the chocolate fondue out for us, on the house! Again, so thoughtful and unnecessary and delicious, too!

We have had fine dining experiences for special occasions where we didn't get treatment such as this. It's nice to know we can go to a neighborhood restaurant and count on them for making an occasion special. Thanks to the staff at 404 Wine Bar to make a 2nd wedding anniversary memorable for my husband & I.

Great service, great atmosphere, average food

I am surprised reading some of these comments. My friends and I went to 404 a few weekends ago and had great service. We adored our server, Rachel. She made an excellent suggestion on wine and became our friend by the end of the night! The bar is cozy and we were sat right away without a reservation. The fondue was awesome! Everything else was just average. Nothing too special for the higher prices. Overall, we had a blast though and will be back.

Just Plain Rude

The waitstaff here leaves alot to be desired. First they don't seem to know that much about wine, one of the suggestions the waitress made for me tasted like Kool Aid, they only thing missing was the box. They seem disorganized, at one point we were waiting (or being ignored) at the packed bar for drinks while the bartender had an ongoing conversation with one of the servers. A friend set a full drink down on a table and it got cleaned up immediately by a busser, when he went to the bar to get a replacement he waited and waited and when asked if he was forgotten about got an "I'm working on it" from the girl behind the bar while she chatted with another coworker. The finale came when a server walking by dumped a full glass of red wine down my friends pants, asked "did I get you?" and then responded with an "Oh" instead of an apology when she was advised that she did in fact spill wine all over a customer. The staff at 404 need a class in Customer Service 101.

Poor, Poor Management
By James from Lakeview, August 7, 2008

I have lived in Lakeview near Jack's/404 for many years. I wish that it was a more enjoyable place to visit! Each time I have gone into Jack's, without fail, I have been treated rudely by the ever-changing wait staff and management. In my opinion, I, as a patron, am keeping both the staff and management in business and should be treated kindly and respectfully. I can't believe how little the staff at Jack's appreciates their clientele. Recently I've noticed that Jack's has been pretty empty. I guess the rest of the community is catching on that they can get great food at better prices while be treated with appreciation and respect at plenty of other establishments around Lakeview.

Very nice wine bar

I went there on a Wednesday night and really enjoyed it, the wine list was very good and the cheese and fruit complemented the wines really well. It's very chill, you can talk and relax on a very cozy and comfy atmosphere... oh, and if you get a couch, that's a plus!

I was at 404 Wine Bar on a recent Friday evening. The wine list is great, we had no trouble finding seating, and the place has a great, loungey atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

I was recently in Chicago visiting a close friend. We were looking for the perfect low-key spot to relax and catch up. She suggested 404 Wine Bar, a place she regularly frequents. Although it was super crowded on a Friday night, we talked with the manager, and she found us a spot without even a 10 minute wait. We tried the Spanish wine flights and talked for hours next to the fireplace....our server was so friendly and really helped us select a great wine, (although I forget the name). My friend always knows the best places in the city---but this one is definately my favorite and I can't wait to come back!

I absolutely love this place. The service is great, food is amazing (try the chicken pot pie - it's to die for), and wine is fantastic (try the Jewel Collection Viognier - YUM!!)

I came here with my mom and aunt and we absolutely loved the atmosphere. The staff took a little while to warm up, but then were friendly and helpful. The wine selection was nice and the cheese flight was AWESOME. The brie went on like butter. I will definitely be back to relax and enjoy a glass of wine.

This "wine bar" is more...

This "wine bar" is more bar that anything. Don't expect much from this place. To start off, its not its own bar, its a room of Jack's Bar and Grill. The atmosphere is closer to that of Alumni Club or Mothers rather than Loungey Wine Bar. Their wine selection is nothing to brag about. But, the worst thing about this place is the service. The whole "get close and personal with the bartender at the bar" is a bunch of BS. Neither the staff or the owner treated us well. They were all EXTREMELY rude. I've been treated better at a McDonalds. If your looking for good wine bar, this would not be it. (Be sure to look at the reviews for Jack's Bar and Grill, since is basically the same place
