In Japanese, wabi means "elegant simplicity" or "understated beauty." The brick wall, bare wood and clean lines of Sushi Wabi make the name appropriate. The 20-seat sushi bar may be the largest in the city. Industrial wood-block-and-steel tables and the machine-shop-inspired stools give the room a strong energy, which is balanced by soft lighting and rhythmic jazz on the sound system. The room displays no artwork; staff members say the sushi presentations provide all the visual punch necessary. On busy nights, hip crowds give the place an artsy vibe.
