The groundwork was laid for this restaurant when owner Alex Dana converted his original Rosebud on Taylor Street (opened in 1977) from a steakhouse to an authentic Italian eatery. The Rush Street location debuted in 1991. Along with an outdoor cafe, seating is either upstairs or downstairs in a room called Cocktails & Cabaret. This lower-level room is for smokers; a piano sits to the left of a full bar. The romantic upstairs dining room has an oval dome painted sky blue, tasteful paintings, warm lighting and window tables overlooking Rush Street. Rosebud is a popular lunch spot for Michigan Avenue shoppers.
