Boston's North End at Orleans & Superior

This place, with GianCarlo and Guido at the helm and some pretty cool waitstaff, could be at home in Boston's North End -- the appearance and age of the building, the bar area, the red tableclothed tables in the back and the red sauces are spot on. And wine lovers, you'll save brain cells because there's just a few offerings by the carafe and half-carafe -- go for the Gabbiano and enjoy, even if you don't get past the bar. Oh yes, these guys have a terrific arsenal of CDs and mix 'em up just right.

Authentic Northern Italian food and a warm and inviting atmosphere makes Club Lago a perfect stop for lunch or dinner. Hosts Gian Carlo and Guido often greet guests by name, make persoal recommendations, and supervise a kitchen which creates stimulating dishes. Our favorite is Bracioline all'agro, a veal scallipini smothered in a sauce of herbs and spices. A third generation restaurant, Club Lago reflects the flair and intimacy you would expect to find in a small village in Tuscany.

Our New Favorite Spot

We just discovered Club Lago on Saturday night and it's our new favorite restaurant-- great italian food, warm staff and a upbeat, festive atomosphere. The owners, Guido and Gian Carlo, made us feel welcome, made great food recommendations and seem to know the first names of many of the customers. The veal and pasta dishes were great, as were the onion rings.

This is a small, hole-in-the-wall of a restaurant with crowded seating but decent food and good service. The greeter and bartender were very nice and helpful, but the food was lacking and the ambience was weak. If I lived nearby, I might revisit on occasion, but I wouldn't travel far for it.

Real Itilian experience

If you’re looking for a real Italian dining experience - look no further. Time and time again this place seems to impress with some of the best veal in Chicago. The decor is unique and not to be the main focal point, but will allow for a fun and relaxing environment. From experience the daily specials are where your find your new favorite item at a great value..

Anytime friends visit Chicago and ask to go to a real neighborhood place, I send them to Lago. The food is very good --hearty, Italian and well prepared. The atmosphere is terrific -- if you don't feel at home here, go home and don't go out anymore. Guido and Jon Carlos, the brothers who own Lago greet everybody and make the place work. And the staff is terrific. We go there all the time -- it's our second dining room.

How FUN!

Stopped in for an after work dinner for four and had just a great experience! We were seated immediately in the bar area which was lively and fun but not too noisy. We started with baked clams then moved on to the fish of the day, shrimp (which was huge and tender!) and the egg plant parmesan. Hands down this was the best egg plant parmesan I have ever had! Not sure if it was the night, the company, the waitress who couldn't have been any cuter but walking out of there on a snowy Friday night we were happy as clams!

I've enjoyed this place every time I've been in. The owners and staff are so friendly, and the restaurant itself has a very authentic "this is Chicago" feel to it. The food is more comfort food from the grandmother's kitchen than fine dining, but I love everything I've had. Each time I've gone I've had a great time- Hope it is around for another 50 years!

Our concierge at the Ritz directed us to the finest ethiopian food we have ever tasted.Each course was more bile building then the last one,thankyou to our gracious hosts john carlisimo for providing us with individual barf bags for our party of 12. There were stars from the film industry seated behind us and it all turned in to a big barfing event,Thanx again to our gracious hosts for a great nite.We will definetley be back.
